A novel device and method for the application of two or more components of a fibrin sealant using a gas is disclosed. The novel device and method involve the concentric arrangement of annular apertures (14, 16) for each of the components concentric with and radially outward of a center gas discharge aperture (12) in the exit end of a spray head (10). Reservoirs for each component, for example syringe cartridges or cylinders, are in discrete fluid communication with the spray head and preferably can be activated by a common means.

A method and a device for separating a component, such as fibrin monomer from blood, by centrifugation, involve feeding of blood admixed an anticoagulant to a first annular chamber in a device, where the annular chamber is defined by a cylindrical outer wall and a cylindrical inner wall, both walls extending coaxially about a common axis, as well as by a top wall and a bottom wall. The top wall or the bottom wall is formed by a piston body displaceable within the first chamber. This method involves furthermore a centrifugation of the device about the said common axis to substantially separate blood into a cell fraction and a plasma fraction followed by the resulting plasma fraction being transferred while influenced by the piston body to a second chamber defined by an outer cylindrical wall. The outer cylindrical wall extends coaxially with the said common axis, whereby a fraction with fibrin I is caused to be separated in the second chamber while a suitable enzyme is being added. The separation of fibrin monomer from the plasma fraction in the second chamber is carried out during continued centrifugation whereby a fibrin polymer is deposited on the cylindrical outer wall of said second chamber, whereafter the fluid fraction collected at the bottom of the second chamber is transferred while influenced by the piston body to the first chamber. The fraction with fibrin polymer remaining in the second chamber is substantially deposited on the cylindrical wall and is caused to be dissolved by addition of a solvent and by centrifugation, whereafter it is transferred to a receiving container by passing after addition of a binder to the enzyme through a filter removing said enzyme, whereby a fibrin monomer containing solution is provided.

A container for receiving and separating blood plasma into its ingredients comprises two sealingly coupled sections (1 and 2). One container section (2) and the adjacent portion of the other container section are made of solid material, and the two container sections are screwed together. The container sections (1 and 2) comprise their respective chambers (29 and 30) for receiving their respective fluid ingredients, and these chambers are interconnected through a connecting channel (31) through the abutting portions, at which the container sections (1 and 2) are screwed together. A valve seat (21, 27) is shaped at each end of the connecting channel (31) for each valve member (22, 16) for a sealing closing of the chambers (29, 30) in the separated state of the container sections (1, 2). The valve members (22, 16) comprise mutually abutting projections (23, 12) ensuring a distance between the valve members (22, 16) exceeding the distance between the associated valve seats (27, 21) in the coupled state of the container sections (1, 2), but being smaller than the distance between the associated valve seats (27, 21) in a position during a separating movement of the container sections (1, 2). Furthermore, retaining means (15, 16) are provided for ensuring that the valve members (22, 19) do not engage the valve seats (27, 21) in the coupled state of the container sections (1, 2).

An apparatus for preparing a concentrate of coagulation factors, such as fibrinogen, from a blood sample, comprises a first chamber (14) for collection and separation of said blood sample so as to separate a plasma fraction, and a second chamber (15) for collection of said plasma fraction through a tubing member (22, 30) and a valve (24) and for precipitation of said concentrate. The apparatus comprises furthermore a removable syringe (36) for receiving the concentrate from the second chamber (15) through a tubing member (32). The first and the second chamber (14, 15) are partially defined by the same integrally formed solid container wall (2) and comprise a common partition. The first chamber (14) is further defined by a piston (4) displaceable both in connection with the blood sample collection and the transfer of said plasma fraction to the second chamber (15) and in connection with returning said plasma fraction to the first chamber (14) upon the precipitation of the concentrate.
