摘要: A method of selectively accessing a desired recording layer on a multi-layered optical disk is described. The multi-layered optical disk comprises a first recording layer (3; 7a) superposed on a first base plate (2), a second recording layer (4; 7c) superposed on a second base plate (2), and a spacer (5) of adhesive disposed between the first recording layer (3; 7a) and the second recording layer (4; 7c). Each recording layer (3, 4; 7a, 7b, 7c) has an identification section (ID a , ID b ). Information is recorded on and/or reproduced from the recording layers (3, 4; 7a, 7b, 7c) by a focused light beam. The method comprises changing the focus of the light beam and detecting zero cross points of respective focusing error signal S curves, each S curve corresponding to a respective recording layer, until the same number of zero cross points as an ordinal number of the desired recording layer is detected. The correct selection of the recording layer (3, 4; 7a, 7b, 7c) is confirmed by reading an identification section (ID a , ID b ) thereof which stores its recording layer address.

摘要: An optical disc using a single-spiral land and groove track format enabling accurate tracking offset correction and reliable detection of the transition point between a land track and a groove track, and a driving apparatus therefor, are disclosed. Four physical address areas PID1, PID2, PID3, and PID4 are recorded to a header area such that PID1 and PID2 are offset one-half track pitch toward the outside circumference of the disc from the groove track center, and PID3 and PID4 are offset one-half track pitch toward the inside circumference of the disc from the groove track center, and the physical address areas PID1 - PID4 can be detected by means of a difference signal in the radial direction. The single frequency pattern area VFO at the beginning of each PID is lengthened by PID1 and PID3, thereby enabling tracking offset correction using a sum signal, and detection of the land-groove transition point using a difference signal obtained from the PID offset. The frequency of the VFO pattern may be set lower than the highest frequency of the channel bit sequences of the modulation method used on the disc. Address marks may employ a channel bit pattern which includes two sequenses which are longer than the longest mark length of the modulation method.

摘要: A rewritable optical disk is disclosed which is compatible with a read-only optical disk in which a read-only area has tracks divided into a plurality of first sectors, signals being pre-recorded in at least one of these first sectors under a predetermined reproduction format. The rewritable optical disc comprises a read-only area located in an inner portion in which read-only tracks are formed, and a rewritable area located in an outer portion in which rewritable tracks are formed. Each of the rewritable tracks is divided into second sectors, and the signal is recordable in the second sectors under a predetermined recording format which includes the predetermined reproduction format as a part thereof and further includes another part specific to the predetermined recording format.

摘要: In a read-only area, each track is divided into sector regions having a same capacity. An error correction code is added to a first data signal to constitute a second data signal, which is recorded in each sector region by forming a pit array. In a rewritable area, user data to be recorded is made to correspond to the first data, to which the same error correction code as that in the read-only area is added, to constitute the second data signal as in the read-only area. A data signal for rendering the signal rewritable is added to the resultant signal, to constitute a third data signal. A header region representing address information of the sector is added to the region for recording the third data signal, to form a rewritable format. The optical disk is divided into two areas in the radial direction; the rewritable area on the outer circumference side and the read-only area on the inner circumference side. A control data signal is recorded in the read-only area.
