A method and system are provided for optimal routing of calls in an Internet Protocol-based Base Station System (IP-based BSS) (200), whereby a plurality of new messages are introduced on the A-interface. One such message informs the BSS (200) that the Circuit Identity Codes (CICs) included in the message can be connected to the BSS (200) to provide optimal routing of one or more calls. Another such message informs the BSS (200) that the CICs included in the message are to be restored as separate CICs on the A-interface. The provision of such messages overcomes the significant disadvantages of the existing and developing BSS implementations.

The present invention relates to a method for allocating communication bandwidth between a first terminal of a plurality of terminals and a network device. Wireless communication between the first plurality of terminals and the network device is carried out using a plurality of carrier channels. The communication defines a first bandwidth. The method comprises the steps of receiving the request for change of bandwidth from the first terminal, evaluating current load on carrier channels in use by the first terminal, evaluating priority between all terminals using the carrier channels currently in use by the first terminal, evaluating capacity of all carrier channels available to the first terminal, and allocating a second bandwidth between the network device and the first terminal by allocating a new number of carrier channels. A packet-switched Base Station System (200) transmission infrastructure is disclosed, whereby statistical multiplexing can be used to improve the utilization of installed transmission resources. In such a packet-based network, all types of traffic (e.g., signalling, speech, Circuit-Switched Data and GPRS traffic) can be mixed because efficient mechanisms are made available for assuring that Quality of Service requirements are met. As such, the mixing of speech and data traffic with their different Quality of Service requirements is made especially efficient by the infrastructure (200) disclosed. Notably, the infrastructure (200) disclosed can be implemented for any Internet Protocol-(IP-)based Random Access Network (RAN), and in particular (but not exclusively), can be implemented for TDMA and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems.

The present disclosure relates to different aspects of inter frequency measurements. Methods in a User Equipment and in a mobile communications network for performing and handling inter frequency measurements are provided. It is further provided embodiments of a node and a User Equipment for performing said methods. It is therefore one object to provide a solution to the problem of prohibiting overloading the User Equipment's processor with frequency measurement processing, thereby allowing User Equipments having a certain processor capacity to perform measurement control for more cells and frequencies, i.e. measurements on more than two non used frequencies, without increasing the processing load of the User Equipment. The object of the present disclosure is achieved by allowing different requirements for measurements, i.e. measurement performance requirements on different frequencies, i.e. cells. When ordering the UE to perform inter frequency measurements, at least two separate neighbour cell lists may be used.

The invention relates to a method for reducing interference between users in a mobile communications network (1) in which uplink transmissions from user equipment, UE (3), to a radio base station, RBS (5A, 5B), can be performed on at least two different carriers (C1, C2). The UE (3) support dynamic switching between CDM and TDM transmission mode and the RBS (5A, 5B) is arranged to dynamically set the mode of transmission for the UE (3). The method comprises the steps of: - identifying (S200) at least a first UE as a high data rate, HDR, UE currently requiring high data transmission rate; dedicating (S201) at least one of said at least two carriers (C1, C2) to said HDR UE for at least a first period of time (T), said at least one carrier (C1, C2) hereinafter being named clean carrier, and - allocating (S202) said at least first HDR UE to said clean carrier (C1, C2) during said at least first period of time (T). This method ensures that no UE operating in CDM mode is transmitting on the same carrier at the same time as the HDR UE.

A mobile telecommunications system has an IP-based GSM system, a UMTS system, and a connection connecting both the IP-based GSM system and the UMTS system to a common IP network. The telecommunication system can be incorporated in a network having a plurality of systems all connected by the common IP network to permit compressed speech via an A-interface in each system and throughout the network. The system permits an operator to realize a significant reduction in operating costs.
