摘要:
A duplex/simplex printer for producing toner particle images on opposite sides of a substrate during a duplex mode or producing toner particle one side of the substrate during a simplex mode including: means for forming a first toner particle image on an imaging member (10) with toner particles electrostatically charged to a first polarity; an image conditioner (73), being enabled only during the duplex mode, for reversing the charge polarity of the particles of the first toner particle image on the imaging member (10); an intermediate member (54) for receiving of the first toner particle image during the duplex mode; a bias transfer roll (58), positioned opposed from the imaging member (10) with the intermediate member (54) therebetween, for transferring the first image to the intermediate member (54) by moving the intermediate member (54) and the imaging member (10) past the bias transfer roll (58) being charged at the first polarity during the duplex mode, the duplex mode includes the forming means forming a second toner particle image on the imaging member (10) with toner particles electrostatically charged to the first polarity and means for feeding a substrate between the intermediate member (54) and the imaging member (10) and a controller reversing the charge polarity of the bias transfer roll (58) to a second polarity thereby simultaneously transfer charged particles of the first and second images to opposite sides of the substrate during the duplex mode.
摘要:
A preconditioning process and dual electrostatic brush cleaning apparatus for reducing adhesion of toner particles on the photoreceptor (10) surface such that cleaning of the photoreceptor (10) is enhanced. Preconditioning of the brush (82) and/or the photoreceptor (Fig.5) in the cleaning apparatus allows for cleaning of dual polarity toners, CAD toners and DAD toners. The apparatus may include a second brush (83), downstream of the first (82), and biassed to a potential (+ V) opposite to that (-V) of the first brush. The preconditioning of the brush (82) means that it does not need replenishing once the print operation begins due to the electrostatics that maintain a constant predetermined level of toner in the brush (82).

An apparatus for charging a photoconductive surface to a substantially uniform potential in a printing machine having a cleaning station (79) for cleaning the surface and an exposure station (35) for exposing the surface to a light source includes a first mechanism (34) for charging the surface to a substantially uniform potential of a first polarity after the surface is cleaned at the cleaning station (35). The apparatus further includes a second mechanism (36) for charging the surface to a substantially uniform potential of a second polarity opposite to the first polarity after the surface is charged to the substantially uniform potential of the first polarity by the first charging mechanism (34) and before the surface is exposed to the light source at the exposure station (35). Similarly, a method of charging a photoconductive surface to a substantially uniform potential in a printing machine having a cleaning station (79) for cleaning the surface and an exposure station (35) for exposing the surface to a light source, includes the steps of (1) charging the surface to a substantially uniform potential of a first polarity after the surface is cleaned at the cleaning station (79) ; and (2) charging the surface to a substantially uniform potential of a second polarity opposite to the first polarity after the first polarity charging step and before the surface is exposed to the light source at the exposure station (35).
