The present invention relates to a method for preparing a styrenic olefin. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: adding a catalyst and a solvent in a reactor and heating the reactor to create a reflux state; adding an alcohol starting material to the reactor dropwise at a constant rate; removing water generated by adding the alcohol starting material from the reactor; and purifying the obtained styrenic olefin. The method of the present invention is advantageous in minimizing byproducts and preparing styrenic olefins having a variety of substituents in high yield.

The invention relates to a catalyst for dehydrogenating 1,1-diphenylethane and substituted 1,1-diarylethanes, especially for non-oxidatively dehydrogenating 1,1-diarylethanes to 1,1-diarylethenes, based on iron, potassium and cerium. Said catalyst advantageously contains up to 90 wt. % iron, calculated as Fe2O3, 5 to 40 wt. % potassium, calculated as K2O, 0.01 to 30 wt. % cerium, calculated as Ce2O3, 0.01 to 10 wt. % magnesium, calculated as MgO, 0.01 to 10 wt. % vanadium, calculated as V2O5, 0.01 to 10 wt. % wolfram and/or molybdenum, calculated as WO3 or MoO3 and optionally, 0.01 to 5 wt. % aluminium, calculated as Al2O3 and/or 0.01 to 10 wt. % calcium, calculated as CaO. The invention relates to a new compound (3-Vinylphenyl)phenylmethane,and a method for producing α-(3-benzoylphenyl)propionic acid of ketoprofen without difficulty at low cost and in a high yield. The method comprises the steps of: reacting (3-vinylphenyl)phenylmethane with carbon monoxide and hydrogen, water or lower alcohol in the presence of a transition metal carbonylation catalyst to form α-(3-benzylphenyl)propionic acid derivative, and when the thus obtained compound is an aldehyde, oxidizing methylene group and formyl group of the compound simultaneously or sequentially, or when the obtained compound is an acid or its ester, oxidizing the methylene group of the compound, and if necessary performing a hydrolysis step.
