The invention specifies a method for controlling a multiphase converter which comprises a number of half bridges connected into an intermediate voltage circuit and having center taps between switching elements, wherein, by means of the cyclic switching of the switching elements, the respective center taps of the half bridges are connected to an upper intermediate circuit rail or to a lower intermediate circuit rail of the intermediate voltage circuit according to the principle of pulse width modulation. According to the invention, the switching elements of at least one half bridge are driven in a modified manner, at least in some time intervals, in that the switching pulses of at least two consecutive periods of the pulse width modulation are concatenated directly in time as one switching pulse. In this way, the switching frequencies of the correspondingly driven switching elements and thus the switching losses of the latter can be further reduced.

L'alimentation en courant continu est réalisée à part du courant secteur redressé par un pont de diodes chargeant un condensateur réservoir. L'un des pôles de l'alimentation est connecté à l'auto-oscillateur par l'intermédiaire d'un circuit limiteur de tension qui permet de moduler la puissance appliquée à la charge en fonction de la lumière ambiante. Un circuit de correction de déphasage est intercalé entre le réseau et le redresseur. A power converter controller and methods for its operation are provided that can control a power converter using estimates of the output power of the converter without requiring a connection to the secondary side of the converter transformer. A self-oscillating power converter that uses a Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) as a switch by manipulating the current flowing in a control winding is also provided. The controller is able to determine the optimum time to remove a short circuit applied to the control winding, as well as being able to determine the optimum time to pass current through the control winding. The controller can further draw power from the power converter using the control winding. The controller is capable of maintaining the midpoint voltage of the power converter in the case that the converter has more than one switch. The controller further controls entry and exit into a low-power mode in which converter oscillations are suppressed.
