In order to squash a long-rigid metal scrap by relatively small drive force, the side ram (63) is adapted to squash the scrap sideways only at a certain limited section which is shorter than the overall length of the scrap in the longitudinal direction of the feed channel (30). A downward hydraulic ram (53) is associated with the side ram (63) and is adapted to downwardly squash the scrap (35) only at the limited section prior to squashing operation of the side ram (63). A control unit (70) is associated with the respective drive systems of the shear-stand (20), of the feeder (40), of the side ram (63), and of the downward ram (53), for supervising and controlling them in a predetermined operation sequence.

A baffle (160) for a food waste disposer to reduce noise is disclosed. The baffle (160) has a diaphragm that allows solid and liquid waste to pass through the diaphragm, and accordingly does not substantially affect the normal operation of the disposer. However, because the baffle (160) covers the central opening in the conventional mounting gasket (150) of the prior art, a direct path from the grinding mechanism in the disposer (110) to the sink (120) is blocked, thus muffling the noise coming from the grinding mechanism. Additionally, the disclosed baffles are preferably, but not necessarily, designed so as to create a water dam on their surface by impeding the flow of water from the sink faucet in a way to create a pool of water. The disclosed baffles (160) may be installed in the drain opening (122) of a sink (120) above the conventional mounting gasket, although other embodiments are also disclosed.

The multifunctional fiber rich fraction (FRF) and highly purified FRF are useful as excipients for pharmaceutical dosage forms for various routes of administration. These excipients can be used as binder, disintegrant, filler, dispersing agent, coating agent, film forming agent, thickener and the like, for preparation of variety of dosage forms. FRF and highly purified FRF can also be used in a controlled release, targeted release and other specialized delivery systems, as well as in food and cosmetics formulation.
