摘要: Improved dip coating methods and mandrels for forming polymer leaflets and valve prostheses are disclosed. The mandrel (300) has a top surface and an outer surface comprising a plurality of ridges (306) and contoured surfaces (310) extending to the ridges (306). An edge (312) on the mandrel (300) separates the top surface (314) and the contoured surfaces (310), with the mandrel edge (312) corresponding to the free edge of the leaflet. In preferred embodiments, the edge (312) separating the top surface (314) from the contoured surfaces (310) is sharp. The polymer formed on the top surface (314) can be efficiently separated from the remaining portions of the polymer structure to form the free edges of the leaflets.

摘要: An implantable prosthesis can be formed from an improved biocompatible material that provides for cellular colonization of the biocompatible material. Specifically, the biocompatible material is a rigid porous material. In embodiments of particular interest, the implantable prosthesis is a mechanical heart valve prosthesis with a rigid occluder. In some embodiments, the rigid occluder is formed from the biocompatible material. A filler comprising a hydrogel or a structural protein can be located within the pores. In some embodiments, a bioactive agent is within the pores. In some embodiments, the rigid occluder is formed from a polymer material, a carbonaceous solid or a ceramic material. The pores can extend through the rigid material.

摘要: Crosslinked tissue is contacted with one or more toxicity reducing solutions to remove cytotoxicity associated with the crosslinking process. In particular, crosslinked tissue can be contacted with an inorganic sulfur-oxygen group to form chemical adducts of aldehydes and the inorganic sulfur-oxygen group. Preferably, the cytotoxicity reduced crosslinked tissue has no residual cytotoxicity. In preferred embodiments, a plurality of toxicity reducing agents are used to detoxify the tissue. Preferred toxicity reducing agents include, for example, inorganic sulfur-oxygen ions, such as bisulfate and thiosulfate, organic sulfates, amines, ammonia/ammonium, and surfactants.

摘要: A prosthetic heart valve (10) for implantation in a heart includes an outer orifice ring (14) for coupling to a tissue annulus of a heart (42). An inner orifice ring (12) includes at least one leaflet occluder (18) carried in a lumen (22) of the inner orifice ring (12) which is movable between an open position, which allows blood flow through the lumen (22), and a closed position which blocks blood flow through the lumen (22). The inner orifice ring (12) is adapted to be coupled to the outer orifice ring (14) after the outer orifice ring (14) has been attached to the tissue annulus (48).

摘要: A manipulable low profile heart valve holder (12) that can be pivotally attached to a handle (22) that permits the heart valve holder (12) and a retained heart valve prosthesis (13) to be manipulated remotely during implantation. The heart valve holder (12) is pivotable from a position wherein the plane of the orifice of a retained heart valve (13) is parallel to the axis of the handle (22), to a second position wherein the plane of the retained heart valve (13) is substantially 90° to the axis of the handle (22). This pivoting arrangement particularly aids in manipulation of the heart valve prosthesis (13) during implantation using trocars for access to the body cavity. Manipulation is accomplished by having controllable elements on the handle (22) and retained on the exterior of the patient. Manipulation of the heart valve holder (12) also may be done through separate instruments operating through separate trocars.
