The controller determines a required torque of the alternating current motor. The controller also determines a voltage command value that substantially minimizes a copper loss of the alternating current motor while providing the required torque of the alternating current motor. The pulse generator generates an output voltage according to the voltage command value at the alternating current output.

A motor-current square value calculation section 45 calculates, as a motor-current square value, the sum of respective square values of two phase currents converted from three phase currents flowing through an electric motor. A temperature estimation calculation section 44 performs low-pass filtering for the motor-current square value, and calculates temperature increases of the mass portion and coils on the basis of the filtered motor-current square value. In the low-pass filtering, filtering calculation is performed in a manner which changes depending on rotational speed RV of the electric motor; i.e., whether the electric motor is in a rotating state or in a stopped state. The temperature increase of the mass portion is added to ambient temperature of the electric motor to thereby estimate temperature of the mass portion, and the temperature increase of the coils is added to the estimated temperature of the mass portion to thereby estimate temperature of the coils. Accordingly, the coil temperature of the electric motor can be accurately detected, and current flowing through the electric motor is properly controlled in accordance with the detected temperature.

Um den Läuferwiderstand einer Drehfeldmaschine zu bestimmen, wird im Ständer über eine feldorientierte Regelung ein Strom eingeprägt, der in Richtung des Flusses einen harmonischen, über der Nennfrequenz der Maschine liegenden Anteil besitzt. Aus Strom, Läuferlage und einem nachstellbaren Parameterwert für den Läuferwiderstand rechnet ein Strommodell eine feldparallele EMK-Komponente EF1 aus, deren harmonischer Anteil EF1 ∼ isoliert wird. Zusätzlich rechnet aus Strom und Spannung ein Spannungsmodell feldparallele Komponente des EMK-Vektors als Stromkomponenten-Sollwert EF1′ und deren harmonischen Anteil EF1 aus. Ein Korrekturregler CR1 stellt den Parameter r R des Läuferwiderstandes solange nach, bis die Differenz beider isolierten harmonischen EMK-Anteile verschwindet. Das Testsignal wirkt sich praktisch nicht im Fluß und im Drehmoment der Maschine aus. Gleichzeitig kann auch der Ständerwiderstand r S bzw. die Streuinduktivität x St ermittelt werden.

A current command including a magnitude at a Gamma angle is provided to control a motor when the motor is operating in a motoring mode at a shaft speed (404). A matching current command including a same magnitude at a same Gamma angle is provided to control the motor when the motor is operating in a braking mode at a same shaft speed (408). A first actual averaging rms current magnitude of three phase currents of the motor is monitored when the motor is controlled by the current command and operating in the motoring mode (406). A second actual averaging rms current magnitude of the three phase currents of the motor is monitored when the motor is controlled by the matching current command and operating in the braking mode (410). A current sensing instant is adjusted (416) until an observed first actual averaging rms current magnitude in the motoring mode equals an observed second actual averaging rms current magnitude in the braking mode.
