A water collection system blocks down-pipes to collect water from a roof. A down-pipe (27) is located adjacent a rain water diversion unit (31). The unit comprises a box (36) with the down-pipe (27) fitted to an opening (37) in bottom (38) of the box (36). The gutter (14) has two side-by-side openings (39 and 40), the opening (40) has an overflow in the form of upstanding wall (41) while the opening (39) has a valve plate (42) hinged to the front edge at (43). A pneumatic actuator (44) is used to move the valve plate (42) to the closed position. When the valve is closed, the opening (40) and the upstanding wall (41) serve as an overflow back to the stormwater via the box (36). The tank pipe (17) also has an opening (45) with an upstanding wall (46) which has its upper edge (47) set lower than the upper edge (48) of the wall (41) of the overflow. All down-pipes are fitted with diversion units. A controller includes a rain sensor to detect a rain event whereupon a time delay is imposed for first flush to flush the roof before the valves close the down-pipes. When the tank is full a float is used to operate the controller to open the valves if they are closed or prevent them closing in the case of a new rain event and the tank being already full.

There is provided methods and apparatus ( 2 ) for collecting water from ambient air. The apparatus has at least one condensation surface which is cooled to, or below, the dew point of the ambient air. The cooling of the condensation surface is effected by utilising a gas to reduce the partial pressure of refrigerant vapour to effect evaporation of liquid refrigerant. Water in ambient air that contacts the cooled condensation surface condenses and is collected. There is also provided apparatus for effecting cooling and/or heating.

The hollow mould (50) is adapted to contain in use a charge (20) of thermoplastic material in powder preliminarily put in and has an outer surface (54) and an inner surface (55), the latter shaped in order to reproduce the shape of the side surface (15) of a desired hollow body (10). During the rotational moulding step, the thermoplastic material (20) contained in the mould (50) is molten by means of heating means. More in detail, the machine (100) has means for actuating the mould (50) in a spatial movement through a combination of rotations about at least one first axis (31) and a second axis (32) orthogonal to each other. This combination of rotations about the axes (31, 32) causes an uniform distribution on the inner surface (55) of the mould (50) of the molten thermoplastic material (20). The machine (100) is, furthermore, equipped with means (53) for constraining a stiff core (25), for example of metal, in the mould (50) near the inner surface (55) thereof. During the moulding step, the stiff core (25) sinks in the molten thermoplastic material and remains thus integrated in the bulk of thermoplastic solid material that is the body of the resulting reservoir (10) [ Figure 4 ].

A system and method for managing water content in a fluid (19,.38) includes a collection chamber (12) for collecting water from the fluid (19) with a desiccant (20), and a regeneration chamber (14) for collecting water from the desiccant (20) and transferring it to a second fluid (38). An evaporator (28) cools the desiccant (20) entering the collection chamber (12), and a second evaporator 52) cools the second fluid (38) to extract the water. The evaporators (28,54) use a refrigerant, the flow of which is controlled by a flow control valve (70). When the temperature in the second evaporator (54) drops below a set point, the refrigerant flow to the second evaporator (54) is stopped, and the refrigerant flow to the first evaporator (28) is increased. This increases the water collection in the collection chamber (12), and causes a rise in the temperature in the second evaporator (54). The valve (70) is then opened to increase the cooling in the second evaporator (54).

The first reservoir (2) performs the function of removing the heaviest portions of the impurities, but is also provided with a lamellar device (4), wherein small drops and impurities of the rain water may be combined to larger impurity aggregates. The second reservoir (6) is divided into a first chamber (6a) and a second chamber (6b), said chambers communicating with each other. A tube (5) provided with perforations (5′) is arranged above the lamellar device (4), through which rain water containing impurities is able to flow from the first reservoir (2) and into the first chamber (6a). The first chamber (6a) is provided with a filter (9). In this way, a more efficient purification of rain water than using the known separator is provided.
