The invention provides a process for making permanent stain resistant polyamide carpets with light color. The process comprises dyeing a low amine end and cationic dyeable polyamide carpet with acid dyes, and imparting stain resist compositions onto the carpet. In addition to stain resist compositions, a fluoro-chemical is also applied to improve soil resistance. The resulted carpet displays a built-in permanent anti-stain and anti-soil resistance after many shampoo-washes.

Seam puckering on a sewn product made of cellulosic fibers, synthetic fibers and/or animal fibers can be prevented from occurring by simply applying a (meth)acrylate resin finish and/or a polyester resin finish to the seams on the sewn product, then hot pressing the seam. The addition of an acidic catalyst, a polyether compound, or a combination of a cellulose-reactive resin finish with an acidic catalyst to the (meth)acrylate finish and/or polyester resin finish provides a better seam pucker preventing effect on cellulosic fibers than do existing cellulose-reactive resin finishes.

The invention concerns a fabric with insect repellent properties and a method for the manufacturing of a similar fabric in which a solution comprising an insect repellent product and a binding agent on a fabric is provided whereby in the solution an acrylate and a elastomer are added in order to enhance the retention of the insect repellent product on the fabric. Hereby, a fabric is produced that retains its insect repellent properties during successive washes.

Such properties are imparted by applying a coating or film formed from a cationically-charged polymer composition. The polymer composition includes a noncationic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of providing a cationic charge to the polymer composition, and a steric stabilization component incorporated into the cationically-charged polymer composition. Compositions for imparting a performance enhancing property to a fabric comprising a complex between an anionic polymer and a cationic polymer, wherein either the anionic polymer or the cationic polymer comprises a functional group that is capable of imparting the performance enhancing property to the fabric are disclosed. The performance enhancing properties are durable and can withstand many home launderings. In addition, methods for applying polyelectrolytes complexes to fabrics to impart a persistent performance enhancing property to the fabric are disclosed. Fabrics having durable performance enhancing coatings are described, where the coatings are formed from polyelectrolytes.
