摘要: The present invention provides a filter assembly including a sealing device having first and second surfaces. A filter element (4) has a first surface disposed about the first surface of the sealing device (5). The filter element has a second surfaces disposed adjacent to the second surface of the sealing device. A compressible material (14) is disposed between the first surface of the filter element and the first surface of the sealing device and between the second surface of the filter element and the second surface of the sealing device. The filter element has a coefficient of thermal expansion that differs from the coefficient of thermal expansion of the sealing device. The compressible material is compressed between the second surfaces at a first predetermined temperature. The differing coefficients of thermal expansion combine with an increase in temperature of the filter assembly to a second predetermined temperature, higher than the first predetermined temperature, to compress the compressible material between the first surfaces. Thus an effective seal is formed at both the first and second predetermined temperatures.

摘要: The present invention is directed to an ion exchange membrane comprising a integrally reinforced polymeric film grafted with an aromatic moiety having at least one aromatic ring substituted with an ion exchange group. The ion exchange group can be an anion exchange group or a cation exchange group.
The present invention is further directed to a method for preparing an ion exchange membrane which involves contacting an integrally reinforced polymeric film with an aromatic monomer substituted with at least one aromatic ring and grafting the aromatic monomer to the integrally reinforced film. An ion exchange group is then introduced to the aromatic ring to provide an ion exchange membrane. Optionally, the aromatic monomer may possess an aromatic ring substituted with ion exchange group or derivative thereof, thereby eliminating the step of introducing the ion exchange group to the grafted species.
The present invention is further directed to a method for treating a fluid comprising contacting a fluid with the ion exchange membrane of the present invention. The present invention is further directed to devices which comprise the membrane of the present invention.

摘要: A combined temperature and pressure sensing probe assembly for a flow measurement system (2) comprising, a tubular body (4), a portion of which is adapted for insertion into fluid flowing in a confined conduit, such as a pipe (6). Within the tubular body are separated plenums which are exposed respectively to high and low fluid pressures in the flow. A manifold block (10) is attached to that portion of the tubular body which is disposed outside of the pipe containing the fluid flow. Along with valves (20) and fluid conveying channels, the block is equipped with a duct for carrying electrical conductors and also contains a traverse bore which is aligned with the tubular body and is in communication with the conductor carrying duct. An electrically responsive temperature sensor (32) is disposed within the tubular body and is mounted in the aligned bore of the manifold. Conductors (30) from the temperature sensor (32) are directed from the manifold's bore (35) through the connecting duct to a point exterior of the manifold.

摘要: A vehicle, such as a missile, includes a propulsion unit (44) and a fuel system (42,45,10,43) supplying fuel to the propulsion unit (44). The fuel system (42,45,10,43) includes a filter assembly (10) through which the fuel passes to the propulsion unit (44). The filter assembly (10) includes a filter element (12) having a first bubble point with the fuel sufficient to prevent the passage of gas through the element (12) when the fuel and a gas are passed to the filter element (12) and the vehicle is subjected to accelerations of between ± 1g and ± 10g. The first bubble point will generally be at least 40 mbar. The element helps to prevent the passage of gas to the propulsion unit so as to maximise the amount of fuel passed to the unit (44) before operation of the unit (44) is affected by air.

摘要: Metal coated articles where the metal is electrolessly deposited onto catalytic films prepared by thermally activating catalytically inert films formed from an aqueous solution comprising polymer, e.g. cellulosic, vinyl alcohol or oxyolefin polymers, and catalytic metal of group 8, e.g. palladium. Copper electrolessly deposited on activated films exhibits high ductility similar to electrolytic copper, e.g. at least about 8 percent ductility.

摘要: A jet aircraft engine transport apparatus is disclosed which utilizes three major subcomponents. The first subcomponent is a shipping stand (210) which enables a jet aircraft engine to be configured for transport in either a truck transport mode or air transport mode. The second subcomponent is a fan dolly (10) which releasably secures the fan section (F) of the jet aircraft engine for transport. The fan dolly serves the dual purpose of enabling removal of the fan section from the jet aircraft engine and providing a means of transport so that the fan section may be transported on the fan dolly or loaded onto a fan shipping frame (310), the third major subcomponent of the transport apparatus of this invention. The fan shipping frame enables transport of the fan section in either an upright or horizontal position, and further provides for a fan storage container (370) for securing the fan blades of the fan section.

摘要: A testing apparatus which is particularly suitable for leather comprises two pairs of rollers between which the leather passes. By adjusting the speeds and spacings of the rollers and by measuring the torques and positions of the rollers, various characteristics of the leather can be determined. For example, the Young's Modulus can be determined to find low strain regions, a measure of softness can be obtained, shear stress across the thickness can be determined, as can compressiblity and thickness. A laser sensor can be provided to measure surface profile (roughness).
