The print heads (81, 83, 85, 87, 89 and 92) may be offset longitudinally to permit closer line spacing and ''start times'' of individual lines are adjusted accordingly.

The system includes a printer (20), a controller (40), and a feeder (10,12) for selectively feeding an envelope or a cut sheet to the printer. The controller examines the text of each page to identity a destination address, and when the destination address is found prints it on an envelope for the mail piece. The system also has the capability to identify and print return addresses and the capability to print the envelope either before or after pages included in the mail piece.

摘要： A system is shown and described wherein a portable printer is used to produce tags for attachment to mail trays. The printer is uploaded with plans that are the same as sort plans stored in the memory of a sorting machine with which the printer is to be used. The same sort plan that is selected for operation of the sorting machine will be input into the printer so that tags can be printed and attached to mail trays on an as needed basis. These tags can be colored coded so that the targeted day of delivery of the mail can be indicated. Act tags ran be printed by scanning the mail tray tags.

摘要： Method for marking an object with a code which can be scanned by means of IR radiation, which code is applied by means of a suitable printing operation directly to a surface of the object, using a printing ink to which a colourless IR-absorption agent is added. All this is done in such a way that the absorption of IR radiation, in the scanned area of the object, in the parts which are not covered with this printing ink with colourless IR-absorption agent is negligible compared with the absorption in the parts covered with this printing ink, while the parts covered with this printing ink remain at least virtually entirely pervious to visible light. By preference the used printing ink is a colourless printing ink, and the code is applied to a coloured or uncoloured background of the object to be printed.

摘要： A marking system for printing envelopes. The disclosed system includes a xerographic marking engine (16) with conventional photoconductive photoreceptor (26). An electrostatic latent image is formed on the photoreceptor, in accordance with information to be printed, by means of a controller and a laser raster output scanner (42). The latent image is developed by a development subsystem (44). Envelopes to be printed are moved into transfer relationship with the photoreceptor at a transfer zone (46) so that a toner powder image is transferred to the envelope and then moved to a fusing (36) and output (28) station. The controller is apprised of the fact that it is to operate in an envelope printing mode by a sensor mounted to the main paper input tray (32) which senses the presence of a special envelope cassette (62) when the cassette is inserted into the paper tray.
