Granulated particles are described which can be converted into magnetic particles suitable for use in magnetic recording media, which comprise acicular ferric hydroxide oxide particles or acicular iron oxide particles and a semisynthetic starch or semisynthetic cellulose, and which have a bulk density of not less than 0.3 g/cm³ and a powdering ratio of not more than 40%. A process for producing the granulated particles, 0and magnetic particles obtained from them are also disclosed.

A specific magnetic particle powder is described, which is included in magnetic toners used for magnetic image character recognition (MICR). The magnetic particle powder comprises magnetite particles and has a residual magnetization of 12 to 20 emu/g, an Fe²⁺ content of 18.5 to 22.5 % by weight, a surface deposited with Si or Al oxide or a mixture thereof and a specific surface area of 3.5 to 9.5 m²/g. The magnetic particle powder used as one component of a magnetic toner enables the formation of fine accurate images and the exact detection of the image.
