Par ailleurs, la présente invention décrit un procédé de préparation de polymères à base de bore et d'azote caractérisé en ce que l'on soumet le composé de formule (1) ou le produit issu de la réduction de celui-ci, à un traitement thermique, en présence ou non d'un catalyseur de type anionique, cationique, radicalaire et/ou à base de métaux de transition. Enfin, la présente invention décrit un procédé de préparation de céramique à base de nitrure de bore consistant à pyrolyser les polymères obtenus précédemment.

Synthesis of urethane substituted diacetylenes of the formula R-NHOCO(CH₂)₄-C≡C-C≡C-(CH₂) n OCONH-R where n is an integer of from 1 to 20, R=CH₃(CH₂) m (COOCH₂) p , C₆H₅(CH₂) m (COOCH₂) p , C₆H₁₁ (CH₂) m (COOCH₂) p , or C₁₀H₇-(CH₂) m (COOCH₂ p , where m is an integer of from 0 to 11 and p is 0 or 1. The compounds are free of impurities resulting from dehydration of diols of the formula HO-(CH₂) n C≡C-C≡C-(CH₂)-OH. The compounds are produced by first reacting an isocyanate of the formula R-NCO with an alcohol of the formula HC≡C-(CH₂) n -OH, then oxidatively coupling the resulting urethane substituted monoacetylenic compound in the presence of an amine-basic copper salt complex, preferably by bubbling oxygen through the solution. The diaceylenes are polymerized to form the polydiacetylenes. Also disclosed are the monomers and polymers produced.

In accordance with certain preferred embodiments, diacetylenes having liquid crystalline phases are provided which may be polymerized while in the liquid crystalline state to yield conjugated polymers. The processes for the polymerization of such liquid crystalline diacetylenes and for the elaboration of useful optical, electro-optical, electro : acoustic, mechanical, thermal, structural, waveguiding and other articles are also disclosed.

A 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer which comprises repeating units represented by the general formula =CR-C≡C-CR'= (wherein R and R' are the same or different and each is a monovalent organic substituent), has an average degree of polymerization of 4 to 200, has a ratio of the weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to the number-average molecular weight (Mn) corresponding to the average degree of polymerization, Mw/Mn, of 1.1 to 5.0, and is soluble in organic solvents; and a process for producing the 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer which comprises either irradiating a solution of a soluble 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer with a laser light having a wavelength of 250 to 1,200 nm, preferably 550 to 900 nm, to photodegrade the polymer or heating a solution of a soluble 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer to 100 to 300°C to pyrolyze the polymer. The 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer has been regulated so as to have an average degree of polymerization and a molecular-weight distribution within respective given ranges. The process enables such regulation. Also provided are: a useful composite composition based on the 1,4-disubstituted diacetylene polymer; and a constitution of a member comprising the composite composition.
