The main player may have a PC architecture and process all signals digitally for outputting signals tailored for the display device and the individual driving units of the dummy speaker. The integrated system may generate parameters for optimizing display of a video source. These parameters can be shared among users over a network connection.

A method and apparatus for controlling the brightness of an image processing device to improve a brightness characteristic of an image signal, by reducing a pedestal voltage range and correspondingly expanding a brightness control voltage range in a highlight mode. The brightness control method includes the operations of determining whether a highlight mode is enabled; and if the highlight mode is enabled, reducing a pedestal voltage range by a first predetermined value and expanding a brightness control voltage range by a second predetermined value. The pedestal driving voltage and the brightness control voltage can be reciprocally controlled without modifications to a circuit having limited amplification, and the brightness can be improved without saturating an image in a highlight mode.

A video processing system is described for providing an image having more than one region on a display (DISPLAY). The system has a control means (1110; 110) which can determine, for each region (501, 502; 510, 520, 530), the type (e.g., graphics, text, computer programs, broadcast TV video, etc.) of the image material being displayed in the region (501, 502; 510, 520, 530). The system also has a video driver (1155; 135) coupled to the display for providing image signals having contrast and brightness characteristics. The control means (1155; 135) generates a control signal for causing said video driver means to adjust said contrast and brightness characteristics of said image signals according to the type of material being displayed in said region.
