The invention relates to a method of producing a floating structure. The floating structure comprises a body part (100), which is provided with a deck structure or a corresponding support structure (2), prefabricated room units (3) provided with their main border surfaces (4), and fittings located outside the border surfaces (4)of the room unit (3), for example outlet ducts and inlet ducts for sanitary installations, water pipes and/or electrical fittings. The border surfaces (4) of the room unit (3) are arranged so that a service niche in the form of a recess is formed outside the room unit. In order to make the preparatory stages of the floating structure more effective, the service niche is in connection with the prefabrication provided with means, such as piping and other medium transportation means, which relate at least to the room unit (3) in question and form a part of the resident systems (5) of the floating structure (1), whereby at least a part of said elements are attached to the outer border surfaces (4) of the room unit (3) on the side of the service niche in connection with the prefabrication.
