The present invention relates to a cutting tool for machining large workpieces having relatively a large cutting amount and a cutting insert configured to be used with said cutting tool. The cutting tool comprises a cutting insert and a wedge for clamping the cutting insert. The cutting insert has a polygonal top surface, which comprises a recessed portion having a plurality of surfaces inclined toward the center of the top surface. The outline of said recessed portion is twisted at a predetermined angle with respect to the outline of the top surface. The wedge includes a projecting portion that contacts the inclined surface and pushes the cutting insert so that two side surfaces of the cutting insert can be supported by a radial inner side surface and a lateral supporting surface of an insert seat.

The present invention provides a method for treating a surface of a cutting tool, the method including blasting the surface of the cutting tool using a granular abrasive and brushing the blasted surface of the cutting tool. The present invention also provides a cutting tool whose surface is treated by the method. According to the present invention, the surface condition of the cutting tool is improved, thereby achieving superior resistance to chipping while cutting a workpiece and excellent durability by means of improvement in abrasion resistance and toughness.

The present invention relates to a cutting insert having improved main cutting edges and a milling cutter provided with the same. In a cutting insert according to the present invention, main cutting edges positioned along both lengthwise edges of a front surface have a wave shape and are asymmetrical with each other, and other main cutting edges positioned along both lengthwise edges of a back surface are rota- tionally symmetrical by 180 degrees from the main cutting edges of the front surface with respect to a longitudinal central axis of the cutting insert. In a milling cutter according to the present invention, the cutting inserts are alternately mounted in pockets formed on a side surface of the milling cutter so that the concavo-convex portions of the active main cutting edges of the cutting inserts which are adjacent to each other are staggered with respect to each other.

The present invention relates to a whiskered porous body, wherein whiskers are grown in the pores of the porous body, and a method of manufacturing the same. Whiskers of a prior art whiskered porous body were not sufficiently formed at the deeper places of the ceramic porous body. The present invention is directed to solving such a problem. The whiskered porous body of the present invention is manufactured by infiltrating slurry containing a whisker source into a porous body and growing whiskers inside the porous body under a non-oxidizing gas atmosphere by means of carbothermal reduction. According to the present invention, the whiskers are grown uniformly up to the interior of the porous body.

At least one cutting insert having a mounting hole passing therethrough is removably secured on the seating surface. A tool assembly according to the present invention comprises a tool (100) including a head (110) to be approached to a work-piece, a male spigot (120) extended from a rear end of the head (110) and a flange (150) formed at a border portion between the head (110) and the male spigot (120) and having a ring shaped flat rear surface; and a coupling member (200) consisting of a first section (210) having a cavity (211) formed on a central portion of a front side thereof for receiving the male spigot (120) and a second section (220) formed at a rear side of the first section (210) and connected to a driving means. The male spigot (120) has a tapered surface (121,122) formed on a side thereof, a through hole (212-1,212-2) communicated with the cavity (211) is formed on a side of the first section (210) of the coupling member (200), and an end of a coupling screw (412,411) coupled with the through holes (212-1,212-2) is capable of pressurizing the tapered surface (121,122) of the male spigot (120) received in the cavity (211).
