The present invention relates to polyester fiber that can be used as fabric for an airbag. In particular, the present invention relates to a process for producing polyester fiber comprising conducting an esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid composition and glycol in a predetermined ratio; conducting a polycondensation reaction of the oligomer produced by the esterification reaction; conducting a solid state polymerization of the polymer produced by the polycondensation; and melt spinning and drawing the polyester chip produced by the solid state polymerization, fiber for an airbag produced thereby, and fabric for an airbag comprising the same. The polyester fiber prepared according to the present invention has low modulus, high strength, and high contraction. And, the polyester fiber of the present invention may significantly lower stiffness and achieve excellent mechanical properties, thus providing excellent packing property, shape stability and gas barrier effect when used as fabric for an airbag.

The present invention relates to a polyester yarn which can be used in a fabric for an airbag. Particularly, the present invention relates to a polyester yarn, in which a content of one or more inorganic fillers selected from the group consisting of TiO 2 , SiO 2 , and BaSO 4 is 200 ppm or less, a breaking elongation is 15% or more, a dry shirinkage rate is 3% or more, and the sum of the breaking elongation and the dry shirinkage rate is 20% or more, a production method thereof, and a fabric for an airbag produced therefrom. The polyester yarn of the present invention has remarkably reduced stiffness and excellent mechanical properties of high strength, high elongation, and high shirinkage. Therefore, when applied to a fabric for an airbag, the polyester yarn provides excellent toughness, tear strength, edgecomb resistance, gas barrier performance, packing property, shape stability, and gas barrier effects while remarkably reducing stiffness, and minimizes the impact applied to a passenger, thereby safely protecting the passenger at the same time.

The present invention relates to a polyester yarn that can be used in a fabric for an airbag. In particular, the present invention relates to a polyester yarn having a diethylene glycol content of 1.1 to 2.5 wt% and initial modulus of 100 g/d or less, and a production method thereof, and a fabric for an airbag produced therefrom. The polyester yarn of the present invention has excellent moisture and heat resistance and light resistance, and maintained excellent mechanical properties after long-term aging under high temperature and high humidity conditions. Therefore, when applied to a fabric for an airbag, the polyester yarn provides excellent packing property, shape stability, and gas barrier effect, and the impact applied to a passenger is minimized, thereby safely protecting the passenger at the same time.

The present invention relates to an airbag fabric comprising a polyester fiber, and more particularly to a polyester fabric having a thermal resistance constant (X) of 1.0 to 6.5 in the uncoated fabric state, a preparation method for the same, and an airbag for vehicle comprising the same. The airbag fabric of the present invention uses a polyester fiber having low Young's modulus, high strength and high elongation to impart good mechanical properties, such as high strength and high thermal resistance, and good folding property, high dimensional stability, and good air sealing effect as well, thereby minimizing collision impacts on occupants to protect the occupants with safety.

Since the polyester fiber of the present invention decreases stiffness remarkably and secures superior mechanical properties by having a high strength, high elongation, and high shrinkage, it is possible to provide superior packing property, dimensional stability, and air-tight effect, and to protect passengers safely by minimizing the impact applied to the passengers, when it is used for the fabric for airbag.

The present invention relates to a side curtain typed air bag in order to prevent passengers from being injured by a side glass window or structure of a vehicle in the event of a rollover or rolling of the vehicle. The side curtain typed air bag of the present invention is characterized in that the upper and lower portions of air bag consisting of thermoplastic multi-filaments are combined by sewing, and a rubber component is coated or an adhesive film is laminated on upper portions and/or lower portions of air bag including sewing portion, an air leak amount per unit length of the sewing portion (measured at pressure of 2.5KPa) is less than 0.8L/min. cm. The air bag of the present invention can safely protect passengers in the event of a rollover of the vehicle by suppressing the air leak.
