The present invention provides a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising the polymerization reaction product of starting materials comprising: (a) 50 to 100 parts by weight of at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester of a non-tertiary alkyl alcohol in which the alkyl group contains 4 to 20 carbon atoms; (b) 0 to 50 parts by weight of at least one reinforcing monomer, copolymerizable with component (a), the sum of (a) and (b) amounting to 100 parts by weight; and (c) 0.1 to 15 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the sum of components (a) and (b), of a substantially soluble chlorinated polyolefin; said starting materials being substantially solvent-free.

The present invention provides polydiorganosiloxane oligourea segmented copolymers. The copolymers contain soft polydiorganoxiloxane units, hard segments that are diisocyanate residues, the polydiorganoxiloxane units and diisocyanate residues being connected by urea linkages, and terminal groups that are non-reactive, reactive under free radical or moisture cure conditions, or amines. The invention also provides methods of preparing the copolymers.

The present invention provides a release coated film, an adhesive tape comprising a release coated film, and processes for preparing the same. The fluoropolymer release layer comprises a graft copolymer of (i) a base polymer containing polymerized units derived from monomers having terminal olefinic double bonds, and (ii) a moiety comprising a fluoroaliphatic group. The film may be coextruded and may subsequently be oriented in at least one direction. Alternately, the release coating can be extrusion coated onto a backing and may be subsequently oriented if the backing is orientable. Adhesives may be coated onto the release coated films either before or after orientation, or they may be coextruded along with the release coating and/or backing.

Novel pressure-sensitive adhesives are described which show significant resistance to solvents and working fluids such as jet fuel, hydraulic fluid, de-icing fluid and the like. Adhesive compositions comprise nonaqueous dispersions of copolymers of acrylic monomers prepared in the presence of a vinyl-substituted fluoroalkyl siloxane having general formula (I) and a macromonomeric stabilizer. The adhesives prepared from the adhesive compositions exhibit excellent adhesion to glass, aluminum, and low surface-energy materials such as fluoroalkyl siloxane elastomers. Hot-melt processable adhesive, such as pressure-sensitive-adhesive (PSA) or heat-activatable adhesive, compositions of the present invention possess a broad formulation latitude and adequate cohesive strength after application for use in high performance applications. Hot-melt processable adhesives of the invention comprise at least one block copolymer comprising at least two A blocks and at least one B block. The A and B blocks are derived from monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, which monomers result in saturated polymer backbones without the need for subsequent hydrogenation upon their polymerization. Preferably, the block copolymer is a (meth)acrylate block copolymer.

The adhesive comprises a crosslinked copolymer of a first monofunctional acrylate ester of a non-tertiary alcohol having as a homopolymer a glass transition temperature of less than -25 DEG C., a nitrogen containing moderately basic monomer copolymerizable therewith selected from the group consisting of N,N-dialkyl substituted amides, an optional copolymerizable acidic monomer, an optional second monofunctional acrylate ester of a non-tertiary alcohol having as a homopolymer a glass transition temperature -25 DEG C. or greater, and a crosslinking agent. A method of bonding a highly monomericly plasticized PVC component to a substrate, preferably a retroreflective sheeting, using the adhesive.

An article comprising (a) a curved substrate having a surface energy below 45 dynes/cm2; (b) flexible retroreflective sheeting; and (c) a crosslinked tackified pressure-sensitive adhesive adhering the sheeting to the curved substrate. The adhesive comprises: (i) from about 65 to about 99 parts by weight of at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of a first monofunctional acrylate or methacrylate ester of a non-tertiary alkyl alcohol, and mixtures thereof, the alkyl group of which comprises from about 4 to about 12 carbon atoms, which as a homopolymer has a glas transition temperature less than -25 °C; (ii) from about 1 to about 10 part(s) by weight of a polar monomer copolymerizable with the monomer(s) of component (i); (iii) optionally from 0 to about 25 parts by weight of a non-polar ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with components (i) and (ii) selected from the group consisting of alkyl acrylates, N-alkyl acrylamides, and combinations thereof, whose homopolymer has a solubility parameter of no greater that 10.50 and a Tg greater than 15 °C; (iv) from about 1 to about 65 parts by weight of a tackifier based upon the total weight of components (i), (ii), and (iii); and (v) optionally from 0 to about 1 part by weight of a crosslinking agent based upon the total weight of components (i), (ii), and (iii). Another embodiment of the present invention is a method of making the articles of the present invention using bulk UV polymerization.
