The display comprises a light influencing layer, an electrode pad located adjacent to the layer at one side of the layer in order to define a pixel in the layer, an n-channel field effect transistor connected to the electrode pad at its source terminal, a p-channel field effect transistor connected to the electrode pad at its source terminal, a first control line connected to the drain terminal of the n-channel field effect transistor, a second control line connected to the drain terminal of the p-channel field effect transistor, a third control line connected to the gate terminals of the n-channel field effect transistor and the p-channel field effect transistor, and a control circuit for supplying control signals to the first, second and third control lines. By virtue of this configuration, the voltage of the electrode pad can be arbitrarily controlled by adjusting the input levels at the gate terminals.

A display and a driving method for the same capable of constructing clear visual images is described. In the display, a plurality of conductive pads are opposed to a back electrode with a light influencing medium, such as a liquid crystal layer, disposed therebetween. Control signals are supplied to the conductive pads through complementary transistors comprising a p-channel field effect transistor and an n-channel field effect transistor connected between VDD and VSS lines of a control circuit, which also supplies a bias voltage to the back electrode and gate control signals to the gate terminals of the p-channel field effect transistor and the n-channel field effect transistor. During operation, the bias voltage is inverted in order to invert the polarity of control signals applied across the light influencing medium.

A method of manufacturing a light emitting diamond electric device is described. Discrete single crystals of diamond are formed on a semiconductor substrate by a CVD process. The formation of these crystals is carried out by forming discrete crystallization centres on the surface of the substrate and growing a single crystal at each centre. The spaces separating the crystals are filled with an electrically insulating material with the top surfaces of the crystals left exposed, and an upper electrode is provided over the insulating material and making contact with the top surfaces of the diamond crystals. When a voltage is applied between the substrate and the upper electrode, current flows in the crystals and causes them to emit light. By virtue of this method, light emitting devices having high reliability and performance can be mass produced with high yield.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for the formation of thin film superconducting oxide materials, for example materials of the general formula (A 1-x B x ) y Cu z O w , by deposition onto a substrate of the reaction products of a microwave excited plasma subjected additionally to a magnetic field and with the deposition being effected again under the action of magnetic and/or electric fields directed so as to obtain preferential crystal orientation and in some cases epitaxial crystal growth in the deposited film. By use of microwave excitation a hybrid resonance is established within the plasma leading to an abundance of excited oxygen within the plasma whereby the introduction of elemental constituents of the required superconducting oxide material, preferably in aerosol or spray form, can result in a plasma reaction wherein the superconducting material is the reaction product. If a spoiling agent is introduced additionally into the plasma in the first part of a two part process, a non-superconducting film of essentially the same crystal structure and crystal orientation as the required film can be deposited to form a surface for formation of the desired superconducting film.

As for the dual emission display device, since light is emitted to the opposite directions from a light emitting element, the both electrodes provided opposite to the light emitting element are transparent/ translucent. Accordingly, difficulty in black display is created, and thus, the contrast would be reduced. That results from that the back of the display device can be seen through in black display, that is in the OFF state, since the both electrodes have transparency. Addressing the difficulty in black display with respect to an electronic device and the like including a dual emission display device achieving reduction in the thickness and light weighting, pure black display is performed by providing the dual emission display device part with a polarizing plate or a circularly polarizing plate. Further, the contrast can be improved.
