A titanium dioxide complex capable of distinguishing molecules is obtained by modifying the surface of a fine titanium dioxide particle with a hydrophilic polymer in such a manner that titanium dioxide is bonded via an ester bond to a carboxyl group of the hydrophilic polymer and immobilizing a molecule having an ability to specifically bind to a target molecule to the carboxyl residue of the hydrophilic polymer. Due to the molecule distinguishability, this titanium dioxide complex can bind specifically to an endocrine disrupting chemical, a pathogenic factor, a cancer cell, etc. and decompose the same by a photocatalytic function.

The methods comprise activating a brain muscarinic receptor of the vertebrate, or directly stimulating a vagus nerve pathway in the brain of the vertebrate. Also provided are methods for conditioning a vertebrate to inhibit the release of a pro-inflammatory cytokine or reduce inflammation in the vertebrate upon experiencing a sensory stimulus. The methods comprise (a) activating a muscarinic brain receptor or directly stimulating the vagus nerve pathway in the brain of the vertebrate and providing the sensory stimulus to the vertebrate within a time period sufficient to create an association between the stimulus and the activation of the brain muscarinic receptor; and (b) repeating step (a) at sufficient time intervals and duration to reinforce the association sufficiently for the inflammation to be reduced by the sensory stimulus alone.

A turbine-boosted ultraviolet-radiation sterilizing fluid processor that includes a quartz sleeve installed inside a tube unit, an ultraviolet-radiation lamp, a fluid inlet tube and a fluid outlet tube arranged at the upper and lower end of the tube unit respectively. A diversion mechanism is disposed under the fluid inlet tube. The diversion mechanism is composed of a plurality of diversion channels arranged in a ring unit. The total area of the fluid outlet hole of the diversion channel is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the passage of said tube unit so as to form a fluid-pressurizing chamber on top of the tube unit. Thus a whirlpool spinning at a high speed is created so that the fluid is blended properly. The fluid spinning at high speed also flushes the wall of the quartz sleeve thus increasing the sterilizing effects and reducing the frequency of maintenance.
