The invention relates to an irradiation chamber (300) for a liquid purification apparatus using ultraviolet light irradiation against the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms, comprising an inlet portion (302), an outlet portion (303), and a main portion (301) having an elongated shape, the irradiation chamber (300) having an internal surface defining an cavity, the irradiation chamber (300) being provided with ultraviolet light emitting means configured to irradiate liquid in the irradiation chamber (300) with ultraviolet light, the main portion (301) having a shape enlarged compared to the inlet portion (302). The internal surface of the irradiation chamber (300) defining the cavity is a three dimensional rounded surface, having no edge which forms a recess. The invention also relates to a liquid purification apparatus and to a beverage dispenser.

A biocidal fluid purification cap (2) for a fluid container (1), preferably one storing purified water for use in laboratory environments and especially purified water for cell culture and water for molecular biology. The purification cap (2) includes a cap body (3) including an engagement feature (20) for removably attaching the cap body (3) to a mating engagement feature on a spout of the fluid container (1) to hermetically close a spout opening, at least one LED (7a) adapted to emit light in the UV-C range, electronic circuitry (15) for driving the LED(s) (7a), and a power supply for the electronic circuitry (15). The LED(s) (7a) is/are arranged in said cap body (3) so as to be separated from the environment by an UV-transparent window (6) provided in the cap body (3) such that light emitted from said LED(s) (7a) enters the opening of the spout when the cap (2) is attached to the spout of the container (1).

A ballast water treatment device includes a ballast water treatment line, a pump for drawing and pressure feeding treatment target water, a filter, an ultraviolet reactor for irradiating filtrated treatment target water with ultraviolet, a ballast tank for storing treated water having been treated with ultraviolet, and an outboard discharger, and the pump, the filter, the ultraviolet reactor, the ballast tank, and the outboard discharger are provided on the ballast water treatment line. Treatment target water drawn for a predetermined period from start of drawing treatment target water is not caused to pass through the filter and the ultraviolet reactor but is discharged outboard by the outboard discharger, and discharging outboard by the outboard discharger is stopped at elapse of the predetermined period and treated water having been filtrated by the filter and having been treated with ultraviolet by the ultraviolet reactor is poured into the ballast tank.

The invention relates to a method for determining the radical attrition potential of a water, and encompasses the determination of the breakdown of at least one reference substance in the water as a result of irradiation by means of UV light using at least a wavelength in the range from 100 to 350 nm, and describes a device for carrying out such a determination, the aim of which is controlling a process for the oxidative treatment of water.
