The invention relates to a method for the integrated production of casts and mortars (17) on the basis of hydraulic binders (15) and to gravel substitute (16). According to the invention, in a first step, slag (1) is subdivided into a first and a second fraction having different average grain sizes. The first fraction having a larger average grain size is size-reduced and returned to the slag (1), and the iron-containing components (11) and optionally plastics and paper (12) are removed from the second fraction having a smaller average grain size. In a second step, the second fraction is subdivided into superfines (21) and gravel (22), the superfines (21) being used, after optionally removing non-iron metals (13), for producing hydraulic binders (15). In a third step, the hydraulic binders (15) are used with the superfines (21) and tectosilicates (18) for producing casts and mortars (17), and with gravel (22) to produce a gravel substitute (16).

A process for processing stainless steel slags, wherein these stainless steel slags are crushed to a particle size which is mainly smaller than about 60 mm at the most and wherein the crushed steel slags are processed further to produce a shape retaining mass containing the particles of the crushed steel slags in a bound state. The crushed steel slags are more particularly used for the production of asphalt. Due to the binding of the particles in this shape retaining mass, the problem of leaching, in particular of chromium, nickel and fluoride, is solved. Furthermore, it has been found that the crushed steel slags have a good cubicity and an equilibrated grain distribution for achieving asphalt with a high compression strength.

The present invention relates to a composition usable as a binder for premixed cement-based products, comprising ladle slag, calcium sulphate, at least one alkaline sulphate and at least one carboxylic acid, wherein the carboxylic acid is present in an amount of between 0.05% and 3% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition, preferably between 0.17% and 1.5%. The invention also relates to a premixed cement-based product comprising said composition, aggregates and water or a premixed cement-based product to be hydrated comprising said composition and aggregates. The object of the present invention also relates to a cement-based conglomerate obtained from the premixed cement-based product of the invention, once hardened.

The present invention concerns a hydraulic binder comprising a ground blast furnace slag in an amount comprised between 30% and 95% by mass on the binder, Portland cement clinker in an amount equal to or greater than 5% by mass on the binder, and at least one sulphate as activator, characterised in that said slag has the following properties and composition by mass: grinding fineness greater than 4000 cm2/g Blaine glass content greater than 80% SiO2: 30-40% Al2O3: 9-13% CaO: 34-42% with a (CaO+MgO)/(Al2O3+SiO2) ratio greater than 1; and in that said sulphate is contained in a total amount, expressed as SO3, comprised between 0.6% and 4.5% by mass on the binder.
