    摘要: A system for monitoring coring operations has a sensor 80 for detecting one or more drilling parameters relating to a down-the-hole coring operation. An indicative signal from the sensor is communicated to a signal transmitter (30) for transmitting the indicative signal to the surface. The signal transmitter is located in or adjacent the coring assembly. The signal transmitter can be a mud pulser (30) housed above a core barrel (14). Communication of the indicative signal to the signal transmitter can be wireless, hard wired or conducted through the material of an outer barrel (12) of a drilling assembly. The core barrel can include a core limit recognition/detection device (34). An adapter/sub (90) incorporates a check valve (92) to relieve excess fluid pressure if there is sufficient hydraulic lock immediately above a core sample within the core barrel as the core sample enters the core barrel.

The system includes casing lining the wellbore, with the casing carrying a plurality of radioactive sources. A processor is associated with the radiation sensor, and is configured to measure intensity of radiation received from the plurality of radioactive sources, and determine the position of the distal end of the tubular string by correlating a formation or wellbore fluid property that varies as a function of position within the wellbore and the measured intensity of the radiation received from the plurality of radioactive sources.

A telemetry device is positioned within a wall of one of the plurality of tubular members and has a secondary flow path defined therethrough and a valve element engageable with a valve seat provided at an upper end of the secondary flow path. The secondary flow path extends between an inlet and an outlet, both of which fluidly communicate with the through bore and are defined in the one of the plurality of tubular members. A flow restrictor is located within the through bore and is axially positioned between the inlet and the outlet of the secondary flow path. The valve element is actuatable to control fluid flow through the secondary flow path to selectively generate a fluid pressure pulse.

    摘要: A method of interpreting a signal transmitted through a drilling fluid disposed within a telemetry channel of a wellbore that includes defining a finite number of distinct message signals for representing conditions within the wellbore. The method also includes transmitting one of the message signals through the telemetry channel, and receiving a distorted signal that includes the message signal as distorted by transmission through the telemetry channel. A channel impulse response is estimated and applied to at least one of the message signals to generate at least one predicted signal. A comparison is made between the predicted signal and the distorted signal, and an estimation is made as to which of the finite number of message signals is included in the distorted signal based on the comparison.

    摘要: A rotary steerable drilling system that is operable to drill vertical wellbores and automatically maintain a vertical wellbore drilling path. The system includes a control module for operating solenoid valves that control an amount of fluid pressure applied to bias pad piston/cylinders. The control module is operable to determine when the system is deviating from vertical, in what direction the system is deviating, and where the bias pads are in relation to the direction of deviation. Based on these determinations, the control module actuates the requisite bias pads by controlling the amount of fluid pressure applied to the bias pad piston/cylinders to direct the system back to the vertical drilling path.
