The invention relates to a mechanism for adjusting parts of seating and reclining furniture, preferably for adjustable chairs, consisting of a basic housing to accept a mechanism to drive a fixed-position spindle which can rotate in the basic housing and a motor flanged to the side of the basic housing and connected to the mechanism, in which there are on the basic housing an accepting device for connection with a holding device and an adjuster to adjust the movable part of the seating and reclining furniture concerned. In order to produce a compact mechanism for parts of seating and reclining furniture, preferably adjustable seats, in which the overall length of the housing is independent of the travel required of the mechanism, according to the invention the spindle (6) is surrounded by a two-part guide section (8, 9) connected to the basic housing (1) and a slot (10) is kept free in the guide section (8, 9) through which a non-rotating nut (16) movable inside the guide section (8, 9) by the spindle (6) is secured to the adjuster. Thus the adjuster may take the form of a slide (18) surrounding the guide section (8, 9) on its outside.

The dual actuator comprises a housing (8) with a drive at each end, which comprises an electric motor (11), which through a transmission (12) is in driving connection with a spindle (13). On the spindle (13) is arranged an activation element (14) with a spindle nut in engagement with the spindle (13), where the activation element (14) can be brought into engagement with the arm (5,7) for adjusting the sections (2,3). In case of power failure there is the problem that the back rest and leg rest section cannot be lowered to a plane level, which can make the bed uncomfortable or completely impossible to sleep in. This problem is solved in that a rotating element in the drives comprises a connection (21), which is accessible from the outer side of the housing (8) for connecting a tool, e.g. an Allen key (22) for driving the respective drives for the back rest and leg rest section (2,3) for lowering of these to a horizontal position.
