摘要: Embodiments of a compact electrophotographic color developer module (71, 91) are shown and described, each embodiment including generally vertically-oriented, self-contained developers (77, 92) stacked or radially fanned-out above the photoconductor drum (78, 126). The developers (77, 92) are preferably either wedge-shaped or rectangular, and preferably have cylindrical sleeves (73) less than about 2 inches apart. The compact developer module (71, 91) and cooperating image transfer system have a small form factor and footprint and may be used in a wide variety of electrophotographic platforms with minimal changes. A cam system (118) may be included to allow either contact, non-contact, or close-jump-gap development, with a simple code or ROM change. The photoconductor drum (78, 126) is sized to carry less than a complete image, because the image is transferred to an intermediate transfer member before transfer to paper. With extension of the developer canisters (72, 72', 94) and/or of the intermediate transfer member, the system may be easily adapted for increased toner capacity, life and media size, respectively, with minimum or no effect on form factor and footprint. With extension of the width of the photoconductor drum(78, 126) and transfer belt (76) components, the system may be easily adapted for portrait or landscape media orientations.

摘要: An electrophotographic printer apparatus for printing a color image is provided with a receptive layer for recording an electrostatic latent image and a developer unit for applying the toners of a number of colors to the electrostatic latent image. Also provided are an intermediate transfer medium to which toner images formed in a layered form on the receptive layer are transferred, and a power supply for applying a difference in potential between the intermediate transfer medium and the receptive layer. Further provided are a current detector for detecting a value of an electric current flowing across the intermediate transfer medium and the receptive layer, and a transfer unit for transferring the toner image formed on the intermediate transfer medium to a recording medium. Furthermore, a main controller is provided for effecting control in setting the potential difference between the intermediate transfer medium and the receptive layer to V1, in obtaining a current value I1 from the current detector when a toner layer is not present between the intermediate transfer medium and the receptive layer, in obtaining a current value IX from the current detector when the toner layer is present between the intermediate transfer medium and the receptive layer, and in optimally correcting operating conditions of an image-forming element by determining characteristics of the toner layer on the basis of a difference between the current value I1 and the current value IX.

摘要: An image forming member 1 includes an image forming portion 12 for forming an image; a supported portion 10 which is rotatably supported by a bearing 14; and a driven portion 11 which receives a drive force by way of drive means. The image forming section 12, the supported portion 10, the driven portion 11 are all made of the same base member having the same diameter. Further, the surface 10' of the supported portion 10 is supported by the bearing 14, and the surface 11' of the driven portion 11 receives the drive force.

摘要: A method and system for controlling the alignment and registration of color images such as those of cyan, yellow, magenta, and black (C, Y, M, K) which are successively printed on a photoconductive drum (30, 76) and then transferred from the drum to paper (44) during electrophotographic color printing. Each successive color image printed on paper is fused (36, 38) therein, and then vertical, horizontal and angular error signals are generated (56) after each fusion (36, 38). These error signals represent the difference between an original image reference position and the image position after each color image fusion into the paper. These error signals are then processed (60, 62) in a closed loop feedback control system in such a manner as to control (104, 102, 98) the position and scan rate of a laser beam (96) being projected onto the photoconductive drum (30, 76) to thereby cause the next-printed color image to be aligned with the previously printed color image. In this manner, the electro-optical control of each successively printed latent image formed on the photoconductive drum (30, 76) is responsible for the above alignment and paper correction without requiring complex mechanical schemes to accomplish same.

摘要: An electrical charging system (17) for repeatedly electrically charging a photoconductor layer (16) on an electrical conductor through charging that photoconductor layer (16), selectively discharging it, providing toner thereon, and removing the charge image in the photoconductor (16) for each of as many toners as desired for forming a final printed image, followed by using a removal radiation of a shorter wavelength on the photoconductor (16) to avoid long term changes therein. A further charging cycle may be used before the next printed image operation begins.
