The invention provides an AC line power converter comprising a regulation control loop to effect said regulation including means for generating a shaping signal, said shaping signal being substantially periodic at line frequency or harmonics thereof and summing means for introducing the shaping signal to the regulation control loop together with an error signal or control of said regulation control loop, whereby said shaping signal shapes the line current drawn by said converter within said period. The shaping waveform provides corrections for errors and unwanted behaviours and can be varied between cycles. Selection of a shaping waveform permits trade-off between parameters to meet performance goals at points in the operating envelope of the converter.

The present invention relates to a switch mode power supply comprising an input, an output and an intermediate circuit between the input and the output. The intermediate circuit is provided with a voltage source. A current source is provided between the positive and negative pole of the output, said current source being power-coupled to the voltage source. In this way, the apparent ratio between the input voltage and the output voltage is altered, and the operation of the switch mode converter circuit is enabled and improved. The present invention relates also to a method of controlling such a power supply.

A control method for an electric sanding machine, which method comprises rectification of the mains voltage and switched motor control. An external inductance L1 and an extra switch according to step-up topology have been incorporated to carry out power correction also during the time when the voltage is lower than the nominal voltage of the motor. This is preferable because the current and the voltage are lower than in a case where the power correction should be carried out during the whole cycle. Above all, the value at the external inductance L1 may be lower because the voltage is lower when the switching is carried out.
