The present invention relates to a tape heater including: at least one flexible fabric base formed from a heat-resistant thread, the at least one flexible fabric base including a first fabric base part and a second fabric base part; and a heater member, in which the heater member is interposed between the first fabric base part and the second fabric base part. Since the heater member is interposed between the fabric base(s), the tape heater of the present invention exhibits superior flexibility and stretchability and is superior in easily being wrapped around a pipe, as well as reliably protecting the heater member. Further, tape heaters can be continually manufactured, so long as weaving or knitting of the fabric base(s) is caused to proceed while the heater member is interposed between the fabric base(s), to thus join the fabric base(s), Hence, enhancement of production efficiency and prevention of an increase in production cost can be attained.

A woven fibrous article that generates heat upon application of electrical power has a woven fibrous body consisting of a set (14) of non-conductive warp yarns (20,24) and a set (16) of non-conductive filling or weft yarns (28). One of the set of non-conductive warp yarns and the set of non-conductive filling or weft yarns, in one or more first regions (18), consists of relatively more coarse yarns (20) and in one or more second regions (22) consists of relatively more fine yarns (24) with electrical conductor elements (26) extending generally along the second regions of the woven fibrous body to connect the plurality of spaced apart electrical conductance heating elements (30) in a parallel electrical circuit to a source of electrical power. The other of the set of non-conductive warp yarns and the set of non-conductive filling or weft yarns, in the one or more first regions and in the one or more second regions, consists of relatively more fine yarns, with a plurality of spaced apart electrical conductance heating elements (30) in the form of conductive elements joined in the woven fibrous body with the other of the set of non-conductive warp yarns and the set of non-conductive filling or weft yarns to extend generally between opposite the second regions (22) of the woven fibrous body. In one embodiment, fleece may be formed on one or both surfaces of the woven fibrous body by finishing fibers of the relatively more coarse yarns in the one or more first regions of the set of non-conductive warp yarns or non-conductive filling or weft yarns, in a manner to avoid damage to electrical conductivity performance of the conductive elements joined with the set of yarns of the woven fibrous body. A method of forming a woven fibrous article of the invention is also described.

A reticulate heater has a net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 including a plurality of heater wires 20 each having the same wire diameter of from 0.02 to 0.12 mm. The plurality of heater wires 20 are formed into the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 by a tricot knitting technique wherein loops are vertically formed by vertically knitting the heater wire on a continuous and planar basis. The knit meshes of the tricot knitting each have a pitch of 0.5 to 5 mm. Also, the heater wires may be the ones prepared by covering the heater bare wires with a for-enamel-wire coating. Further, the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 may be the one including a plurality of first heater wires each consisting of a heater bare wire only and a plurality of second heater wires each prepared by covering the heater bare wire with a for-enamel-wire coating, the first and second heater wires being formed into the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator by a tricot knitting technique. As a result of this, the reticulate heater can be close adhered also to a complex curved surface. In addition, the reticulate heater can be also brought to a state of its being electrically very stable. Also, it can be arranged that a prescribed amount of heat generated be obtained.
