The outer joint member includes a cup member (13) having a tubular body portion (1) and a bottom portion (12) for closing one opening of the body portion (1), and also includes a disc-like flange member (2) mounted on the bottom portion (12) of the cup member (13). A protrusion (8) is provided on the bottom portion (12), the flange member (2) is fitted on the protrusion (8), and an inside surface (4a) of the flange member (2) and an outer diameter surface (3) of the protrusion are bonded together by welding. In the welding, molten metal flows into a relief portion (9) provided in a fitting portion between the cup member (13) and the flange member (2), and this prevents the weld bead from raising, thereby reducing costs otherwise necessary to eliminate the raised bead.

The invention provides a grease composition containing (a) a base oil, (b) a lithium soap based thickener, (c) at least one stearic acid metallic salt selected from the group consisting of Ca stearate, Mg stearate and Zn stearate, (d) molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate sulfide, and (e) zinc dialkyl dithiocarbamate sulfide. The present invention also provides a constant velocity joint such as a Barfield constant velocity joint (BJ), double offset constant velocity joint (DOJ), tripod constant velocity joint (TJ) or the like, containing the above-mentioned grease composition therein. The grease composition of the invention is excellent in antiwear properties and suitable for the constant velocity joint.

The center Oo of a spherical outer peripheral surface (42) and the center Oi of a spherical inner peripheral surface (44) of the cage (40) are axially displaced in opposite directions from each other by an equal distance away from the center of the joint. The ball tracks are arranged at equal intervals in the circumferential direction, and the pockets (46) of the cage (40) are arranged at random unequal intervals each having an angle equal to or greater than 55º.
