The stopper is inserted into the hollow shaft section of the outer joint member until the fixed type constant velocity universal joint is mounted to a joint mounting device after the plurality of torque transmitting balls are incorporated and then the shaft is mounted to the fixed type constant velocity universal joint.

The present invention relates to a method of producing an outer joint member, comprising thermally treating three-track grooves provided on an inner circumference of an outer joint member for a constant velocity universal joint by using a high-frequency heat treatment coil. The constant velocity universal joint is of a tripod type constant velocity universal joint. The track grooves extend in an axial line direction. Each of the track grooves comprises the guide surfaces opposed to each other and a large inner diameter section formed between the guide surfaces. The high-frequency heat treatment coil comprises a body section, wherein the body section comprises three heating sections including a pair of vertical frames, three upper frames connecting upper portions of the vertical frames, and three lower frames connecting lower portions of the vertical frames. The body section further comprises an upper opening opposed to the large inner diameter section, and a lower opening opened in an axial direction, wherein the body section being machined in an integrated manner. The upper opening is covered by a cover member and the lower opening is also covered by a cover member. The guide surfaces and the large inner diameter section in the vicinity of the guide surfaces being thermally treated by the vertical frames of the three heating sections.
