The invention relates to a water-separating fuel filter (1) comprising an outer housing (2) which has a cover (4) forming a detachable filter head and a bowl (3), and a replaceable filtering element (6) which includes a lower flange (12), an annular filtering medium (7) having an inner surface (7b) which defines an inner space (9). The filtering element (6) defines, inside the housing, an upstream area (Z1) communicating with a fuel intake (4a) and a downstream area (Z2) communicating with an outlet (4b), and separates the water in the inner space which communicates with a lower compartment (V2) for collecting water and with the outlet (4b). The filtering element includes a water level sensor having two detection poles (24a, 24b) which are close to the flange (12) and are connected via the inner space (9) to two terminals separated by a connection interface detachably connecting to two corresponding separated contacts of the cover.
