    摘要: A fibre detector 210 comprises a scattering chamber, means 222 for drawing particles 220 through said chamber in a particle stream, said means 222 being adapted such that particles travel in single file with a longitudinal axis substantially aligned with the flow direction, means 212 for illuminating the particle stream within the chamber, an optical detector 236 adapted to collect a portion of light scattered by particles, data processing means adapted to process the signals from the detector, wherein the apparatus further comprises a means 224, 226 for perpendicularly applying a magnetic field across the particle stream. The detector may a radial detector array or linear arrays. A further detector 234 collects scattered light for particle sizing and to trigger the detector 236. A second light source may also be implemented with the first, and a means for providing a sheath of clean air with the particle flow may be included.

    摘要: A microscope is provided with a supplementary means for producing a light spot in the object plane of the microscope objective lens. The supplementary means comprises a light source from which a collimated light beam is derived, a focusing lens receiving the collimated beam and a coupling lens disposed between said first lens and the objective lens. The supplementary means has the following features:
    (i) the focal point of the focusing lens is in the plane of the image of a specimen in said object plane as obtained through the objective lens and the coupling lens,
       (ii) the light beam fills the clear aperture of the objective lens without substantial light loss and (iii) the focusing lens is movable in a plane perpendicular to its axis to the light spot in the object plane of the objective lens, the parameters of the system are such that the axial ray of light from the light source always passes through the second principal point (i.e. that on the object side) of the objective lens. In one embodiment the focusing lens and the light source are movable together perpendicularly to said axis. In a second embodiment the focusing lens is movable perpendicularly to said axis relatively to the collimated light beam.
