    摘要: An alignment disk including data tracks written in a spiral configuration, through the use of microstepping techniques, to accurately test a variety of transducer head parameters including head alignment, resolution and offset. The tracks include standard spiral tracks, S-shaped clamping spiral tracks and bordered spiral tracks, comprising a sequence of discrete address blocks each containing unique identifying information. The spacing of each address block is precisely known and because each is separately identifiable transducer head location can be precisely ascertained. The microstepping technique may also be employed to create a copy protected disk for disk drives having half-track read and write capabilities.

The warp protrudes far enough from the interior wall (13) of the jacket so that, upon rotation of the disk (9), the warp is deformed and resiliently wipes the face of the disk to remove dust and the like, thereby preventing errors in read- ing/writing upon the disk.

    摘要: An improved reinforcement member for a central aperture in a flexible recording disk and a method for forming the same. The improved reinforcement comprises an integral, annular-shaped ring formed on one or both sides of the flexible recording disk about the central aperture thereof. This improved reinforcement is formed by transfer printing a liquid image of the reinforcement member onto a side surface of the flexible recording disk and then subsequently solidifying that liquid image. The liquid image to be transfer printed onto the flexible recording disk is first established by filling a metering reservoir shaped to be an image of the reinforcement member with a solidifying liquid. A terminal end of complaint rubber tampon is then first contacted to the reservoir thereby picking up the liquid image which is then contacted to the surface of the flexible disk to be deposited there. In the preferred embodiment of this invention, the solidifying liquid material comprises a cross-linkable, non-solvent based polyolefin monomer material in combination with a cross-linking agent which, when exposed to ultraviolet light, creates free radicals whereby the monomer material is caused to cross-link and hence polymerize into a solid.

    摘要: A tape cartridge (100) has a front face (102) sized for compatibility with an industry standard tape drive, and has sides longer than the sides of some industry standard cartridges. The sides (106, 108) and top of the housing extend outwardly in width to form a back portion of the cartridge that is wider than the front portion and prevent the cartridge from being inserted into non-compatible tape drives. Two large diameter tape hubs (114, 116) improve the empty hub to full pack diameter ratios, and improve the resulting tangential drive force and tape tension profiles as the tape moves between the hubs. Flanges (115, 117, 119) are permanently bonded to the hubs to prevent the tape packs from shifting and a spring (174) biases the hubs against the baseplate. A back set of rollers (148, 150, 152) includes a high-drag roller that engages the drive belt (136) at a fixed wrap angle and produces a relatively constant drag. A front set of rollers (142, 144, 146) includes a drive roller (146) and has rollers mounted to form substantially equal geometries with rollers in the back set respective to the tape hubs. The constant wrap angle of the high-drag roller tends to outweigh varying drags from other rollers, causing less change in tape tension and tangential drive force as the tape is transferred from hub to hub. A door (160) covers the capstan and media access openings in the front face of the cartridge when the cartridge is outside of a tape drive. A write protect arm (424) is pivotally mounted at the front face of the cartridge.

    摘要: A drive roller for a belt-driven tape cartridge is molded of composite polymeric material in a single step to include outer segment and inner segment integrally formed together with a radial web segment between the outer and inner segments to provide highly concentric operating surfaces on the outer segment and in the inner segment. Electrical conductivity throughout the molded drive roller is provided by including in the composite material a quantity of carbon powder, and selective shrinkage of the composite material during cooling from molding temperatures provides desirable bearing surface within the inner bore through the inner segment. Thrust bearing surfaces at the ends of the inner segment engage mating bearing surfaces that include lubricant traps to inhibit migration of lubricant away from the bearing surfaces of the drive roller. Stepped inner bore and axially ospaced corresponding stepped axle diameters promotes lower frictional drag, provides a reservoir for lubricant, and facilitates removal of the molded component from its molding cavity.

    摘要: A data tape cartridge is formed on a baseplate (30) of polymeric material which supports mounting pins and tape guides thereon for supporting tape components in rigid and dimensionally-stable manner using integrally formed bosses (43) to support the mounting pins (45) and guides (46). Additional stability against flexure is achieved using a matrix pattern of integrally-formed webs or ribs and sidewalls (34,36) in the baseplate and by attaching a top plate substantially about the entire perimeter of the sidewalls. Lateral forces exerted against rotatable components on the mounting pins are transferred to the baseplate (30) and top plate (12) by the mounting pins (45) that are supported in both plates. A midguide support (50) is integrally formed in the baseplate to support a guide pin (55) at critical location adjacent the location along the tape path in the cartridge at which a tape transducer interacts with tape. Methods of assembly include inserting mounting pins and tape guides into the baseplate while the material of the baseplate about the mounting pins is plasticized, and also include assembling the components of the cartridge in upside-down orientation for transfer to aligned pins and guides in the baseplate.
