A dual band antenna unit for a mobile device may include an antenna receiving part, a first antenna part having a first contact point and a second contact point, a second antenna part, a first feed point and a second feed point. The second antenna part may be formed integrally with the first antenna part and may extend from the first antenna part. The second antenna part may be extractably and retractably mounted in the mobile device. The first antenna part and the second antenna part may have resonant frequencies of different frequency bands. When the second antenna part is extracted, the first contact point may contact the first feed point. When the second antenna part is retracted, the second contact point may contact the second feed point. The mobile device may operate in different frequency bands using a single antenna unit, thereby allowing freedom of internal design and meeting the demand for miniaturization.

A mobile communication device includes a printed circuit board (PCB); a radio frequency (RF) transceiver carried on the PCB; and an antenna coupled to the RF transceiver. A surface mountable antenna clip is mounted on the PCB for retaining the antenna. The clip is a metal structure having a plurality of planar sides generally formed into a U-shape. An opening formed by the structure is sized to receive and retain the antenna. One of the planar sides is used to support the structure and is mounted over a solder pad of the PCB. A hole formed through this planar side is configured to break a suface tension of molten solder over a solder pad of the PCB during a reflow soldering process, so that the clip is more stable and tends not to rotate out-of-position during the process. Legs extending from edges of this planar side also help to stabilize the clip during the process, and provide an increased surface area for the connection. In fact, if the initial Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) placement position of the clip is slightly skewed or shifted, surface tension forces will help the clip to move or rotate into the correct position. The legs also provide sufficient features to a vision system to correctly orient the clip on the PCB.

The present invention relates to a problem, how to achieve a lighter and cheaper antenna and a more reliable and simple manufacturing and assembly process. These problems are solved by arranging a first means (602, 707) to directly contact the radiating element (604, 702), and by a force enable contact, and to directly contact a feed member (610, 713) so that a conductive connection between the radiating element and the printed circuit board is obtained through said means. An advantage, according to one embodiment of the present invention is that the amount of material in the base can be reduced since no seat is required for the contact clip retainer. Another advantage according to the present invention is that a flexible contact is provided. Another advantage with the present invention is that only one end of the base is used for introducing parts resulting in a simpler assembly process and yet another advantage is that fewer parts are needed for the contact between the radiating element and the circuitry.

The operating principle is based on at least two structures ( 11, 21 ) which are essentially independent of one another and emit in wide ranges in different frequency ranges, disposed on one or more dielectric substrate(s) ( 1, 2 ), which are connected both to the ground potential of the application and to the high-frequency feeder. Other conductive structures ( 6 ) which can be resonantly or capacitively coupled enable extra frequency bands to be added. The special design of the metallized structures ( 11, 21 ) therefore enables a higher output capacity (bandwidth) than a conventional PIFA or the same output capacity for a smaller size.
