Die Erfindung betrifft einen Ölfilter für die Reinigung von Schmieröl, insbesondere für Verbrennungsmotoren von Kraftfahrzeugen, mit einem im Einbauzustand zumindest annähernd stehend angeordneten Filtergehäuse, ferner mit einer in dieses eingesetzten ringförmigen Ölfilterpatrone, ferner mit einem Öleinlaß für die Ölfilterpatrone umströmendes, verunreinigtes Öl und mit einem mit dem zentralen Innenbereich des Filtergehäuses verbundenen Ölauslaß für gereinigtes Öl in einem Sockel am unteren Ende des Filtergehäuses, ferner mit einem durch Herausnehmen der Ölfilterpatrone mit dem Einlaßraum des Filtergehäuses verbindbaren Ableitungskanal am unteren Ende des Filtergehäuses und mit einem Verschlußglied, das den Ableitungskanal gegenüber dem Filtergehäuse verschließt, welcher dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß das Verschlußglied ein in dem Ableitungskanal (25) in axialer Richtung verschieblicher Ventilkörper (3) ist, der zusammen mit wenigstens einem Einsprung (26) des Ableitungskanals (25) ein Ventil bildet, daß der Ventilkörper (2) durch eine erste, schwächere Feder (4) in Öffnungsrichtung vorbelastet ist und, daß der Ventilkörper (3) in Schließrichtung durch eine zweite, stärkere Feder (5) vorbelastbar ist, wobei sich diese bei in das Filtergehäuse (2) eingesetzter Filterpatrone (6) an deren dem Ventilkörper (3) zugewandter Stirnseite (64) abstützt.

A fluid filter and a method for attaching same to a filter mount (62) of an engine in sealing relation is provided. The fluid filter includes a filter media (54); a housing (52) for the filter media; complimentary interengageable locking devices (60) formed radially on the filter and filter mount for engaging the filter and the filter mount; and a seal (64) positioned between the housing and the filter mount. The locking devices include either: a first set of circumferentially spaced flanges (70) formed on the inner wall (72) of the housing and a second set of circumferentially spaced flanges (74) formed on the filter mount (62); or a plurality of bolts (110) attached to the filter mount (62) or a plate (116) attached to the housing (52) and a corresponding plurality of holes (114) formed in the plate or filter mount, respectively. The sealing means includes an annular, O-ring (75, 120, 150, 156, 170) positioned between the housing and the filter mount. The method includes the steps of: forming either of the above-described fluid filters; and either inserting the first set of flanges between the second set of flanges or, inserting each of the plurality of bolts into one of the corresponding plurality of holes, and turning the filter a quarter turn to engage the filter and the filter mount.

The disclosure describes an adapter assembly for a conventional fluid system having a filter unit mounted to a filter pad. The adapter assembly allows the pressure differential across the filter element to be conveniently measured by a differential pressure detector. The adapter assembly, which is mounted between the filter pad and the filter unit, generally comprises an adapter plate, a mechanism for attaching and sealing the adapter plate to the filter pad, a mechanism for attaching and sealing the filter unit to the adapter plate, and a fitting for connecting the differential pressure detector to the adapter plate. The adapter plate includes at least one aperture which allows fluid to flow between the inlet chamber of the filter pad and the inlet of the filter unit and another aperture which allows fluid to flow between the outlet of the filter unit and the outlet chamber of the filter pad. The adapter assembly further comprises structure definig a fluid channel to the detector fitting from the fluid flowing between the inlet chamber of the filter pad and the inlet of the filter unit and structure defining another fluid channel to the detector fitting from the fluid flowing between the outlet of the filter unit and the outlet chamber of the filter pad.

A filter assembly incorporates a system for jacking a fitter canister (13) into and out of engagement with a filter head (11). A threaded jackscrew (15) is mated to a threaded portion of the filter head and rotatably mounted on the filter canister, but longitudinally confined near the canister top. The assembly can accommodate a second class lever (46) the fulcrum of which lies in a notch or other recess (44) in the filter head. The jackscrew includes a plurality of circumferentially-spaced lugs against which a portion of the lever can act. The manual application of force to the free end (46B) of the lever creates a mechanical advantage of the jackscrew lugs (48) such that a torque sufficient to free and turn the jackscrew can be generated. Repeated pivoting of the lever against successive lugs of the jackscrew in a ratchet-like manner unscrews the jackscrew, and the captive canister, from the filter head.
