The invention relates to a fuel filter (10), particularly for diesel fuels, which comprises a housing (11) and a filter medium (12). The filter medium (12) is arranged in the housing by means of a filter medium holder (24) which has a ventilation bore (25). Gases which collect in the upper area of the fuel filter can pass from the untreated space (21) through the ventilation bore (25) to the treated space (22). In order to prevent contaminants from passing out of the fuel filter (10) through the treated fuel outlet (18) and damaging downstream components, a treatment medium (26) which holds back such contaminants is provided.

An improved oil conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a mechanically active filter element and a chemically active filter element containing a beneficial additive therein. The beneficial additive is provided to extend the useful life of lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine. The beneficial additive may include an antioxidant, an anti-wear agent, and/or a basic salt. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the chemically active conditioning agent is provided in a plurality of particles disposed within the oil filter housing. The particles may be bonded together to form an integral porous filter element having spaces defined between the particles thereof. The particles are made either by a hot extrusion process or by a solvent process.

An oil-draining hole (14) is provided at a bottom portion of the case. The oil filter further includes a plug member (32) for opening and closing the draining oil hole and a spring member (16) for operating the plug member according to an engagement state of the case and the cap. At an intermediate condition of the engagement state of the case and the cap, the plug member moves to the cap side to open the oil-draining hole. A filter assembly is provided having a housing defining a housing edge. A tapping plate is also provided and is generally circular in shape. The tapping plate defines a tapping plate edge and includes a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. Preferably, the at least one fluid outlet port is a central threaded aperture to enable the filter assembly to be secured to a filter mount of an engine. An interconnecting device is included for interconnecting the housing and the tapping plate. The interconnecting device further retains an external seal generally about the tapping plate edge. The external seal is an economically formed lathe-cut gasket and the interconnecting device includes a first and second extension member. The first extension member is formed integrally with the tapping plate at the tapping plate edge. The second extension member is formed integrally with the housing at the housing edge. The second extension member extends substantially around the first extension member, thereby providing a seamless interconnection and a generally flat surface for retaining the lathe-cut gasket. Alternatively, the interconnecting device includes a seal support tray. The seal support tray is generally U-shaped and includes opposing first and second legs. The first and second legs arc positioned adjacent the lathe-cut gasket. The second extension member extends substantially around the first extension member and the first leg of the seal support tray, thereby providing an interconnection impervious to fluid leakage.
