Abstract: An electrochemical cell has a cylindrically-shaped casing tube with at least first and second lithium sheets swaged onto its inner surface. The first lithium sheet has respective spaced apart first right and left edges, and the second lithium sheet has spaced apart second right and left edges. The first and second right edges and the first and second left edges of the swaged first and second lithium sheets are adjacent to but spaced apart from each other by about 0.5° to about 1° about the inner circumference of the cylindrically-shaped casing tube. A novel process for swaging the first and second lithium sheets onto the inner surface of the casing tube is also described.

Abstract: A pulse dischargeable electrochemical cell, preferably of a Li/SVO couple, is described. To help prevent lithium clusters from bridging to the terminal pin extending below the casing lid and connected to the cathode current collector tab, an elastomeric gasket directly contacts the inner surface of the lid. The elastomeric gasket is preferably a unitary member comprising an O-ring gasket portion that contacts the sealing glass of the glass-to-metal seal (GTMS), and a sheetshaped gasket portion connected to the O-ring gasket portion and that contacts the inner surface of the lid. The GTMS does not have a ferrule. Instead, the sealing glass seals directly to the lid and to the terminal pin. The elastomeric gasket resides between the lid and an insulator compartment, which is described in co-assigned U.S. Patent No. 10,629,862 to Roy et al.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cap assembly for a battery, comprising: a connector, the connector comprising a central part, a peripheral part, and a transition part between the former two parts, wherein a current interrupt device is disposed on the central part;
a pressure relief piece, the pressure relief piece being located outside a cell of the battery with respect to the connector and electrically connected to the connector via the current interrupt device, and being able to turn over when the internal pressure of the cell exceeds the overturning gas pressure of the pressure relief piece so as to disconnect the current interrupt device, cutting off the electrical connection between the pressure relief piece and the connector; and an internal insulating washer, the internal insulating washer being disposed on the peripheral part of the connector, wherein an insulating coating is applied to the peripheral part and transition part of the connector on one side facing the pressure relief piece. The insulating coating can prevent reconnection of the connector to the pressure relief piece in the case of an external short circuit and improve the short circuit safety of the battery. The present application further relates to a method for making a connector for the cap assembly and to a battery comprising the cap assembly.-

Abstract: According to the invention, a button battery (1',1") is provided that includes a sealing assembly, comprising one of the terminals (9) of the battery, an electrically insulating portion (17) and a circumferential wall portion (15). The insulating portion (17) forms a hermetic bond with the terminal (9) and with the wall portion (15), obtainable by methods applied in glass-to-metal type technology. The sealing assembly is receptacle-shaped and one or more components of the battery such as the anode (8), the separator sheet (7) and the cathode (3) may be inserted in said receptacle shape prior to assembling the battery. The wall portion (15) forms a part of the second terminal and is attached to the remainder of said second terminal by an electrically conductive and hermetically closed connection such as a circumferential weld seam (16). A battery according to the invention may be produced by inserting one or more components of the battery into the sealing assembly (9,17,15) and attaching the wall portion (15) of the sealing assembly to the remainder (2,2') of the second terminal, for example by welding.
