The aim of the invention is to produce threads with various nominal diameters in a particularly economical manner and with improved structural quality. Said profile projections (20) are formed in a continuous manner and have a variable radial extension on the periphery of the head of the thread (18), and are initially inserted into the tool at a point on the periphery (SU) of the workpiece bore in the workpiece.
