A system (10) and method for controlling the inflation, ablation, and deflation of a balloon catheter (1) is provided. The system includes a balloon catheter (1), a console (20) having a pressurized gas or liquid inflation source, and an umbilical system (12) to deliver pressurized coolant to the balloon catheter (1). The system (10) comprises a PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller or other pressure-sensing device that monitors the amount of pressure and volume within the balloon catheter. During inflation, the pressure and/or volume of fluid within the balloon (23) is maintained at a target amount in order to provide sufficient mechanized pressure against the desired target region. The system limits the inflation pressure such that a safe quantity of gas would be released should a leak occur. If the amount falls below a certain threshold level, gas or fluid egress is presumed and the inflation process is halted.

An electro-nerve stimulator system includes a pulse generator for generating current pulses with a transcutaneous patch and percutaneous needle for delivering current pulses to selected stimulation sites. The stimulator is a small battery operated external device that allows adjustment of stimulation levels and interfaces, via a connector, to the trans-percutaneous cable. The transcutaneous electrode is attached to the skin distal from the desired stimulated nerve site. A percutaneous needle is inserted close to the internal nerve site. Stimulation current pulses are designed to flow between the transcutaneous electrode and the internal percutaneous needle. The field generated at the needle site causes the nerve to fire.

The first component (10) comprises a body (14) having first (16) and second (18) external surfaces and an inner wall (20) defining an aperture (21) extending through the body, and the second component (12) comprises a longitudinal member (22) having a size and configuration to permit insertion within said aperture (21) to thereby assemble the components. The retention element comprises: an elastromeric protuberance (32) extending into the aperture from a base (34) adhering to the inner wall (20) to a distal edge (36) which spans a portion of the aperture. The protuberance also has an inside wall (37) and an outside wall (38) which meet at the distal edge (36) and together define a flexible free end (39). Upon insertion of the second component into the aperture of the first component, the free end of the protuberance flexes in the direction of insertion such that the force required to assemble the two components is less than the force required to disassemble the two components.
