In a CDMA based wireless digital communications system, a CDMA communications station. A CDMA communications station includes a signal encoder adapted to encode signaling information into a series of signaling packets, wherein the signal encoder processes the signal information into variable size signaling packets in accordance with an amount of the signaling information. A voice encoder is included in the station and is adapted to encode voice information and process the voice information into a series of voice packets, wherein the voice encoder processes the voice information into variable sized voice packets in accordance with an amount of the voice information. A multiplexer is included in the station wherein the multiplexer is coupled to receive the voice packets and coupled to receive the signaling packets and for combining the voice packets and the signaling packets into a traffic frame. A transmitter is coupled to the multiplexer for transmitting the traffic frame as received from the multiplexer. The multiplexer is further adapted to include the signaling packets into the traffic frame with the voice packets such that more signaling information is included in traffic frames having smaller voice packets with respect to signaling information included in traffic frames having larger voice packets such that the size of the voice packets are not constrained by the transmission of signaling packets.

The present invention describes a global motion estimation method between an incoming frame F(n) of a sequence of frames and a large static image M(n-1), which is constructed from previous frames F(1), F(2), ..., F(n-1) of the video sequence. This motion estimation method uses a motion model based on a two-dimensional perspective transform, which contains eight motion parameters. In the present invention, the eight motion parameters are the coordinates of the four vertices of the incoming frame. The motion estimation method according to the invention enables any displacement of the four corners of the original rectangular image to fit the next one by optimizing a cost function. Such an invention can be useful for applications related to MPEG-4 and, more especially, to MPEG-7 standard, such as sprite generation or mosaicing.

Information is extracted from a hand-written text by means of a graphics tablet (1). The curves thus obtained make it possible to recognize primitives, namely basic forms, representing a way of writing a part of a letter. More accomplished forms, called allographs, are constructed from primitives in order to construct a letter or in even a group of two or three letters. When the series of codes corresponds to a known object from a dictionary of allographs (3), each defined by the sequence of codes of its primitives, the corresponding allograph is recognized. The genetic algorithm is used to improve the population of strings. "Descendants", obtained by combining two starting strings (7), are constructed from a limited-quantity selection of strings (9), from among which descendants the most appropriate are in turn chosen, this gradually optimizing the population. Applications: recognition of cursive writing.
