In a telecommunications system (100), a method and apparatus for buffering the initial speech of an initial speaker in a push-to-talk call is disclosed. The method includes the steps of determining at least one participant or group to call (410, 510), sending a call request to the at least one participant or group (520), determining if the at 1 east o ne participant or group is registered w ith the telecommunications system, notifying the initial speaker to begin speaking after determining at least one participant is registered with the telecommunications system but prior to connecting all called parties, receiving and digitizing voice packets from the initial speaker. storing the digitized data packets in a storage medium and transmitting the digitized voice packets when a predetermined packet transmission triggering event occurs. The apparatus for buffering the initial speech burst of an initial speaker in a call includes a first server (140) and a second server (150) communicatively connected to the first server. The invention includes a method and apparatus for configuring a self- learning network using feedback information received from an end user terminal communicating via the self-learning network. A method includes receiving feedback information from the end user terminal, generating configuration information for at least one network element of the self-learning network using the received feedback information, and configuring the at least one network element using the generated configuration information. The at least one network element of the self-learning network is configured by executing commands on each of the at least one network element and/or by propagating configuration information to each of the at least one network element. The feedback information may include user and/or terminal feedback information. The configuration information may include any information adapted for use in configuring the at least one network element of the self- learning network (and may also include configuration information for the end user terminal).

The invention includes a method and apparatus providing call admission control for a wireless local area network (WLAN). A method includes extracting call signaling information from call signaling messages exchanged between a first user terminal and a second user terminal for establishing a voice call, where the second user terminal is being served by a wireless access point, and propagating a quality-of-service request toward the wireless access point which may be used by the wireless access point for determining whether or not to accept the voice call. The quality-of-service request includes at least one quality-of-service parameter determined using the extracted call signaling information. The at least one quality-of-service parameter is adapted for use by the wireless access point for determining whether or not to accept the voice call. The wireless access point then provides an indication as to whether it has accepted the voice call (in which case the voice call is completed) or whether it has rejected the voice call (in which case some other call handling may be applied to the voice call).

The present invention proposes a method for generating a real time billing information in a packet switching based network and a network element for implementing Interworking between a circuit switching based network and a packet switching based network, wherein a call is set up between a user of said packet switching based network and a user of a circuit switching based network, and a billing server is informed of at least a billing rate and an interval of billing, said method for generating a real time billing information comprising: generating a first message with a first token indicating the billing rate upon receiving a first charge message containing said billing rate from said circuit switching based network and based on said first charge message, and the billing server is informed of said billing rate; once said call having been set up, generating a second messages with a second token indicating the interval of billing upon receiving a subsequent charge message containing said interval of billing and based on said subsequent charge message, and the billing server is informed of said interval of billing; and generating a real time billing information by said billing server.

A method includes monitoring call establishment signaling associated with a request to establish a call from the caller to the callee, and routing the call establishment request signaling from one of a plurality of terminals of the caller toward one of a plurality of terminals of the callee. The application mentions the use during network congestion, failure of component for example during an emergency. Thus establishing a connection between two subscribers with the greatest resiliency.

The invention relates to the detection and compensation of frame offset discontinuities for tandem connection trails in general and especially to frame offset discontinuities occurring at the entrance of a network element in a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) system. It is an object of the invention therefore, to reduce the influence of frame offset discontinuities occurring at the beginning of a Tandem Connection Trail in a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) or in a Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) System. This problem is solved by a method of transmitting data in a synchronous hierarchic network system comprising at least a path segment between a first network element (A) and at least a second network element (B) on which tandem connection monitoring (TC) method is established for monitoring transmission of information over said path segment. The method is characterised by detection of frame offset discontinuities at said first network element (A) on the basis of the detection of an alteration of the pointer value.
