Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for electronic message expiration processing, in which a message originator or recipient can set an expiration time/date attribute for individual emails, short messages, or other electronic messages, and the messages are automatically deleted from the recipient's system or handled according to other user-selected processing rules when the expiration time/date has past.
Abstract:
In an example embodiment, lightwave device for use in a dispersion compensator, includes a light coupler configured to direct light toward a grating structure. The light coupler includes a first strip including a first material and a second strip attached to the first strip. The second strip includes a second material, and the second material has an expansion coefficient different than the first material. The first and second strips form a deformable reflector. A thermoelectric unit is coupled to the light coupler and is configured to adjust a shape of the deformable reflector based on a temperature of the thermoelectric unit. A support member is connected to the light coupler and is configured to position the deformable reflector so to receive light for transmission to the grating structure. Another embodiment provides a dispersion compensator using the lightwave device.
Abstract:
Communications facilitate locating a mobile station (22) using the radio frequency spectrum typically used for cellular communications. A first locating signal is communicated between a base station transceiver (30, 32) and a mobile station (22) and includes information regarding the location of the signal source. A plurality of second locating signals are communicated between a corresponding plurality of ranging beacon devices (40, 42, 44) and a mobile station (22) and each includes information regarding the location of the ranging beacon devices (40, 42, 44). The first and second signals allow for determining the location of the mobile station (22). In a disclosed example, the first and second signals are simultaneously transmitted by the base station (30, 32) and the plurality of ranging beacon devices (40, 42, 44), respectively.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes one or more optical couplers, an optical medium, and an optical pump source. The optical medium behaves as a negative refractive index material over a frequency range. The one or more optical couplers are configured to provide first and second optical inputs to the optical medium and to provide an optical output from the optical medium. The optical pump source is coupled by one of the one or more optical couplers to deliver pump light to the optical medium.
