    摘要: A method for bleaching cellulosic and lignocellulosic pulp using hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching reagent, utilizes a three stage reaction, viz. two short high temperature peroxide bleaching steps (50,160) at a pressure sufficient to suppress boiling and an interstage treatment (90) including a longer atmospheric pressure reduced temperature bleaching step. The two short peroxide bleaching stages include the steps of introducing pulp, at a consistency of 10%-18%, to a mixer (20,130) in which the pulp is heated to a temperature above 100 degree Celsius; adding sufficient sodium hydroxide (32,142) to bring the pulp to a pH of 8.5; adding sufficient hydrogen peroxide (33,143) to equal from about 0.5%-5.0%, by weight, of the pulp; passing the pulp through a pressurized reactor column (50,160) at a rate providing a reaction time in the column of less than 45 minutes, cooling the pulp and discharging the cooled pulp to a washer. It may be desirable to introduce the pulp to a mixer and add alkali to reactivate residual hydrogen peroxide by bringing the pulp to a pH of at least 9 after the first bleaching stage, deposit the pulp in a reaction tower and allowing the reaction to proceed until a substantial portion of the residual hydrogen has been consumed.

    摘要: A direct monitoring and control method is provided for on-line measurement of effective alkali, carbonate, sulfate and thiosulfate concentrations in process liquors for the production of kraft pulp. The control method eliminates frequent sampling, and the need for frequent equipment maintenance. The method includes the steps of withdrawing samples of a liquor from the kraft manufacturing process, subjecting the samples to infrared spectrophotometry at predetermined wave numbers to produce peak-absorbance measurements relative to a background spectrum of water, determining peak absorbance for different alkali concentrations, correlating relationships between the peak-absorbance measurements of samples with the peak absorbance for different alkali concentrations to determine optimum effective alkali in the samples, and controlling at least one process parameter to obtain effective alkali of the liquor.

L'invention, lorsqu'on la met en oeuvre, permet d'obtenir des vitesses de séchage sensiblement supérieures à celles de trains de séchage classiques. Le produit obtenu selon l'invention est 30 % plus résistant que le papier non calandré séché de manière classique, et sans calandrage présente un lissé et un satiné similaires à ceux de papiers classiques calandrés.

    摘要: Paper of improved properties is produced from pulp in which filler is selectively and substantially entirely loaded within the fiber lumens by vigorously agitating a suspension of pulp and filler until the lumens become loaded with filler, separating the residual suspended filler from the loaded fibers and vigorously and turbulently washing the pulp (e.g., under conditions of shear, preferably with an aqueous solution of a filler aid, e.g., alum) until substantially all of the filler on the external surfaces of the fibers is removed. This procedure achieves high filler levels within the lumen. Retention on the paper machine is increased by the use of such lumen-loaded fibers. The papers have an enhanced combination of strength and optical properties.

The signal from either an acoustic or vibration monitor (12) is processed through a filter (14) which isolates those frequencies at which a significant increase in signal level is known to occur during a clash or are generated in association with imminent or actual plate clashing. The signal level of the filtered data is compared with a threshold level (19) at which protective action must be taken. Protection can be automatically initiated by the plate clash detection system; alternatively, it can be done manually by an operator, using the detection system as a warning device.
