摘要:
Blood separation systems and methods introduce blood into an annular separation channel between a low-G wall and a high-G wall while rotating the separation channel about an axis, for separation of the blood into blood components. The annular separation channel has an annular boundary wall. The systems and methods direct a first blood component into a constricted channel along the low-G wall. The systems and methods remove the first blood component through a first path that communicates with the separation channel through an opening that adjoins the constricted channel adjacent the low-G wall. The systems and methods direct a second blood component along a surface that extends generally in an axial direction along the high-G wall toward the annular boundary wall. The systems and methods collect the second blood component through a second path that communicates with the separation channel through an opening that adjoins the surface adjacent the high-G wall axially spaced from the annular boundary wall.

Automated systems and method for processing blood and other fluids are disclosed. The systems and methods utilize a disposable fluid circuit selected from one of two or more circuits. The circuits are mounted on a re-usable hardware component or module. The system includes a programmable controller including programs for use with the fluid circuits.

A platelet collection apparatus (1) has a function of determining whether there is a tendency to increase or decrease in the number of collected platelets by using data, related to the concentration of platelets, obtained from a turbidity sensor (14), an expected number of to-be-collected platelets or a value related thereto; and a function of decreasing the amount of platelets to be collected in a subsequent platelet collection operation after plasma containing high-concentration platelets is collected in a plasma collection operation, if the function of determining on an increase/ decrease tendency in the number of collected platelets determines that there is a tendency to increase in the number of collected platelets.

A pneumatic pump manifold disposable system, configured as a cassette, is used for the purpose of red cell and plasma apheresis. The cassette integrates a separation device, manifold system, macro-aggregate filter, and five pumping chambers for the purpose of separating plasma and red cells from the whole blood. The cassette system, with the separation device directly attached without tubing, simplifies the loading of the disposable set into the hardware, and reduces the manufacturing complexity of the set. The system allows for plasma, plasma and red cells, or just red cells to be stored in long term storage containers after a procedure.

A blood separation apparatus comprises a blood separation chamber (18) having a base (388) including formed walls (122, 124) that define an annular separation channel (126), an interior wall (136) that extends across the separation channel (126) to define a terminus, an inlet passage (146) on one side of the terminus that conveys blood into the separation channel (126) in a flow path for separation into blood component, an outlet passage (142) on another side of the terminus that conveys the blood component from the flow path and a mechanism to rotate the blood separation chamber (18) about an axis in direction of blood flow in the flow path from the inlet passage (146) toward the outlet passage (142).

Systems and methods rotate a chamber (14), in which whole blood is centrifugally separated into an interface between the packed red blood cells and the plasma constituent. The interface carries platelets and mononuclear cells. The systems and methods include an interface control unit which is operative in a first state to enable removal of platelet-poor plasma (PPP) in a first container for use as a diluting liquid, and in a second state, to retain mononuclear cells (MNC) in the chamber (14), while removing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the chamber (14), bypassing the platelet-poor collection container, thereby maintaining its platelet-poor character, and in a third state to enable the removal of mononuclear cells (MNC) from the chamber (14) in a path (T13) that leads to a second container, where the mononuclear cells are collected.

Blood separation systems and methods are provided for separating blood under conditions of reduced plasma clarity. The system may assess plasma clarity by monitoring light transmissivity of plasma or comparing an actual plasma flow rate to an ideal plasma flow rate, with a low flow rate indicating decreased clarity, which may be addressed by increasing the plasma flow rate. For extracorporeal photopheresis, plasma clarity may be a factor in determining the dosage of irradiating light to apply to mononuclear cells. A fluid processing assembly for mononuclear cell collection may include visual indicium, which an operator may use to determine when to end mononuclear cell collection. The system may detect red blood cells flowing toward a mononuclear cell collection container and reverse the direction of flow to prevent red blood cells from entering the container. An operator may also be enabled to selectively begin and/or end harvesting of mononuclear cells.

This invention relates to a blood processing filter comprising a sheet-like filter element, an inlet-side flexible container and an outlet-side flexible container that sandwich the filter element and are sealed thereto, an inlet port provided in the inlet-side flexible container for accepting blood before being processed by the filter element, and an outlet port provided in the outlet-side flexible container for discharging blood after being processed by the filter element. The blood processing filter also includes a flow channel securing sheet arranged between the filter element and the outlet-side flexible container. A flow channel hole through which blood processed by the filter element passes is formed in the flow channel securing sheet. The outlet port is provided so as to be capable of communicating with the flow channel hole.
