A connector for corrugated pipes or rods comprises a housing (2) having an open end (3) for insertion of a pipe or rod into a bore (5). A pair of resilient locking members or fingers (9) are formed in the housing wall and include projections (10) which extend into the bore (5). The projections are so shaped as to lock into a single valley of the pipe or rod corrugations to prevent withdrawal of the pipe or rod. Also disclosed are methods of moulding the connector in which the fingers (9) are held and/or forced outwardly from the mould during withdrawal of a central core which forms the bore (5) to avoid damage of the fingers by the core.

A method of making a molded plastic component of an internal combustion engine. The method disclosed is for making a fuel rail (10) and comprises constructing particular core pins (20) of the mold with threaded connections that form seals between them when they are disposed in proper position within the mold cavity for the molding of a fuel rail. The core pins serve to form a main fuel passage and auxiliary fuel passages which transversely intersect the main fuel passage. Each core pin that forms an auxiliary fuel passage (14) comprises a screw thread on its inner end that threads into a corresponding complementary threaded recess in the side of the core pin that forms the main fuel passage to create a corresponding seal. This sealing prevents any significant flash from forming in the fuel rail at the intersection of each auxiliary fuel passage with the main fuel passage. After the plastic has been molded, the core pins are unthreaded and withdrawn.

(a) providing a mould comprising a first part (1) having needles (3), a second part (2) cooperating with the first part to close the mould, and an intermediate part (7) located in use between the first and second parts; (b) laying up reinforcing fibres (9) in the first part of the mould, at least some of the fibres (9) being longer than required for the finished composite material, the fibres (9) if desired being impregnated or admixed with resin; (c) positioning the intermediate part (7) of the mould over the free ends of the needles (3), and folding the fibres of extra length (10) around and over the intermediate part (7); (d) assembling the rest of the mould; (e) if required, injecting resin into the mould; (f) curing the resin; and (g) dissassembling the mould, the composite material being removed from the needles (3) along with the intermediate part (7).
