    摘要: A wire mesh rivet (13) is provided which is used to produce a wire mesh isolator (11) in a bore (9) of a substrate such as a heat shield (7) for a vehicle exhaust system. The rivet (13) comprises a unitary wire mesh structure (19) which has a collar (15) and a shank (17). The collar (15) has a higher density than the shank (17), e.g., the collar (15) has the density of the finished isolator (11). The rivet (13) is formed into the finished isolator (11) by compressing the shank (17) to form a second collar, while restraining the original collar (15) from substantially changing its shape. The rivet (13) can include a metal insert (23) which prevents the wire mesh of the finished isolator (11) from experiencing high levels of compression when the substrate is fastened to its supporting structure. The rivets (13) can be carried by a dispensing strip (31) and can be formed into the finished isolator (11) using forming equipment (39) whose dimensions are compatible with the limited space available with some substrates.

    摘要: An exhaust connection coupler and a method for manufacturing a braid cover incorporated therein are provided. The coupler may include an inner flexible bellows member and an outer braid cover surrounding the bellows member. The braid cover may be formed into a predetermined shape prior to assembly with the coupler. The braid member can include a generally cylindrical body section and two end sections each forming necks having diameters that are smaller than the diameter of the body section. The body section of the braid cover is self-supporting and is positioned an appreciable distance from the bellows member in order to avoid any friction and to create a thermally insulating air gap therebetween. The braid cover may be constructed of braided wire filaments that are formed into shape with forming dies. The braid cover may be pressed between two forming dies in order to create its desired shape.

    A reduction catalytic converter (5) disposed in an exhaust system of the engine, for reductively purifying nitrogen oxides in exhaust emission with a reducing agent;

    Wherein the apparatus further comprises blocking means which is detachably disposed for blocking an exhaust passage portion between a portion of the exhaust passage (24), to which the reducing agent injection-supplied from said injection nozzle (7) is attached, and another portion of the exhaust passage (25), on which at least said reduction catalytic converter (5) is disposed, and a feed port (21) for deeding washing water and a drain port (22) for drainage of the washing water are provided on a wall portion of the exhaust passage at the portion to which said reducing agent is attached.
