Provided is a natural gas processing facility for the liquefaction or regasification of natural gas. The facility includes a primary processing unit, e.g., refrigeration unit, for warming natural gas or chilling natural gas to at least a temperature of liquefaction. The facility also has superconducting electrical components integrated into the facility. The superconducting electrical components incorporate superconducting material so as to improve electrical efficiency of the facility by at least one percent over what would be experienced through the use of conventional electrical components. The superconducting electrical components may be one or more motors, one or more generators, one or more transformers, switch gears, one or more electrical transmission conductors, variable speed drives, or combinations thereof.

The invention relates to a method for low-temperature cooling/liquefaction of a working fluid, in particular a working fluid including helium or consisting of pure helium by means of a refrigerator/liquefier that includes a working circuit provided with a compressor station (2) and a cold box (3). The refrigerator/liquefier subjects the working gas within the working circuit to a cycle that includes, in series: compressing the working fluid within the compressor station (2), cooling and decompressing the working fluid in the cold box (3), and heating the working fluid with a view to the return thereof to the compressor station (2). The compressor station (2) includes one or more compression levels, each one using one or more compressors (12) mounted on landings (5). The method is characterized in that the refrigerator includes a device (4) for injecting a seal gas that is separate from the working fluid on at least one landing (5) of the compressor(s) so as to form a gas seal that guides the working fluid leaks, coming from the working circuit, to an area (13) for recirculating and returning (13, 21) the fluid into the working circuit.

A method and device is disclosed for removing residual oil and other contaminants from the refrigerant stream flowing to low-temperature stages of a cryogenic refrigerator. A stream of vapor and liquid refrigerant is injected into a cyclone chamber (32) through the inlet tube (34). While the liquid drains down a conical section (36) and out through a liquid line (38), the vapor phase moves up into a packing of metal platelets (42) which is, in a particular embodiment, cooled by a returning stream of cold vapor passing through a tube (48) wrapped around the column. A portion of the vapor condenses on the platelets and is maintained in equilibrium with the vapor. Since high molecular-weight contaminants are more soluble in the liquid phase, they are carried down the column with the drops of condensate and are swept out with the liquid fraction through the liquid line (38).

The apparatus comprises; a neon gas-refrigerating and liquefying circuit system which precools helium gas and composed of a turbo type compressor, heat exchangers, turbo type expansion machines and a Joule-Thomson valve; and a helium gas-refrigerating and liquefying circuit system which receves the precooled helium gas and composed of a turbo type compressor, heat exchangers, an expansion turbine and a Joule-Thomson valve; the former circuit system being constructed to associate with the latter circuit system so as to further cool the precooled helium gas in the latter circuit system by heat exchange therewith.

Als der Verdichter (21) wird dabei ein hermetischer Verdichter (21) verwendet und/oder der Verdichter (21) wird unter Verwendung einer Magnetkupplung angetrieben. Eine entsprechende Anlage (100, 200) ist ebenfalls Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung.
