A method and device for managing communications between a plurality of heterogeneous devices are disclosed. In one embodiment, a connectivity report is used to determine which network type to use to establish a connection. The connectivity report is prepared by a web portal and broadcast to each device connected to at least one of the network types.

In one implementation, a computer-implemented method includes receiving, at a computing device and from an application installed on the computing device, a request to establish a network connection to transmit and receive data over a network, wherein the request includes information that indicates one or more parameters identified by the application for the requested network connection and data transmission. The method can further include delaying, by the computing device, establishing the requested network connection until i) an available network connection is identified that satisfies the one or more parameters provided as part of the request, or ii) a time period specified for the request has expired. The method can additionally include, in response to identifying an available network that satisfies the one or more parameters before the time period has expired, establishing the requested network connection for the application using the identified available network.

The invention relates to a method of communication for an access control apparatus under network condition converging cellular network and WLAN, comprising the following steps: receiving an uplink data package &om an user equipment; retrieving a destination address of the uplink data package from the received uplink data package; determining the attribution of the destination address, if the destination address is attributed to the fixed network segment, then routing the uplink data package to the fixed access network through Network Address Translation function; if the destination address is attributed to the mobile core network segment, then routing the uplink data package to the mobile core network through Network Address Translation function. Using the method of this invention, WLAN and mobile core network arc simply converged together, and the cellular access network and the mobile core network are offloaded. Furthermore, the proposed method would not influence the other parts of the network, and thus has the advantageous of good compatibility.

According to the invention, the processing is implemented by a first connecting entity (P-CSCFB) of a first core network (CN), and comprises: receiving a request to switch, to the first network (ANB), a first call placed on a second network (ANA) and including a call identifier, information on a media session associated with the call on the first network, and information representing a processing to be carried out on a media session associated with the call on the second network; identifying a second entity (P-CSCFA) of the second network connecting to the core network and through which the call on the second network passes; transmitting the call identifier and the information representing the processing to the second entity; and transferring the request to the core network with the information relating to the media session and an identifier of the call in the core network.

A hybrid network device can implement an address management scheme for maintaining consistency between source/destination addresses and corresponding source/destination communication interfaces. In one embodiment, a first network device can select a first network path from a plurality of network paths associated with the communication network for transmitting a packet to a second network device. A source address can be determined from a plurality of addresses associated with a plurality of communication interfaces of the first network device. A destination address can be determined from a plurality of addresses associated with a plurality of communication interfaces of the second network device based, in part, on the selected first network path. The packet including at least the source and destination addresses can be transmitted via the first network path from a source communication interface of the first network device to a destination communication interface of the second network device.
