Abstract: Systems and techniques for avoiding inefficiencies resulting from failed handover attempts. A base station selects one or more mobility management entity (MME) pools for assignment to a relay node, with the selection being performed so as to minimize or eliminate handover attempts requiring that a target device support a particular MME pool when the MME pool is not supported by the MME. A base station selects, when communicating with a relay node, a subset of the MME pools that it supports and assigns the subset to the base station. UEs served by the relay node are assigned the MME pool or MME pools assigned to the relay node. The relay node is informed of the MME pools supported by one or more neighbor nodes and, when attempting a handover to a neighbor node, attempts an X2 handover only to neighbor nodes supporting an MME pool assigned to the relay node.

Abstract: A method for mobile management entity (MME) selection includes receiving at a base transceiver station (BTS) a message from each of multiple MMEs including information for advertising functionalities of each of the MMEs. The functionalities include at least one type of communications session supported by each of the MMEs. The method also includes receiving at the BTS a message from a user equipment (UE) to request for a communications session. The request message includes session type information indicating a type of session requested by the UE. At least one of the MMEs is capable of serving the requested type of session. The method further includes generating a list of candidate MMEs capable of serving the requested type of communications session from the MMEs by matching the session type information with the capability information, and selecting a serving MME from the list based on the information relating to the advertised functionalities.

Abstract: Provided are a method and an apparatus for maintaining service continuity of a user equipment (UE) after a tracking area is updated. In the method, after a UE initiates a tracking area update (TAU) request, a mobility management entity (MME) judges whether an updated target serving gateway (SGW) is the same as a source SGW (S302); in a case where a judgment result is that the updated target SGW is not the same as the source SGW, the MME further judges whether an evolved base station (eNodeB) currently accessed by the UE is changed (S304); and in a case where the eNodeB is not changed, the MME selects the target SGW to serve the UE and sends the eNodeB a notification message indicating that the UE is switched over to a serving area of the target SGW, or the MME stops selecting an SGW for the UE but directly instructs the UE to continue to be served by the source SGW (S306). The technical solution may maintain service continuity of a UE after a TAU process, thereby improving the user experience.

With the configuration and method proposed in present invention, it can be avoided the problem that accurate synchronization between the gateway and the base stations can not be reached for MBMS data packets in LTE because of path delay and jitter error, so that every base station can specify the same transmitting time for MBMS data packets to guarantee that UE could implement correct RF combining.
